Family Service Of The Piedmont Seeks To Eradicate Abuse Through Domestic Violence Intervention Program

GREENSBORO, NC — A Greensboro organization is doing its part to offer treatment for men who have abused their partners. As the largest private nonprofit agency serving families in Guilford County, Family Service of the Piedmont serves thousands of people each year through counseling, victim services, prevention services and counseling.

With a $1,000 donation from Verizon Wireless on Father’s Day, Family Service of the Piedmont is hoping to raise awareness within the community about the help they offer men.

“While there will always be more work to do educating women about the signs of abuse and how to avoid it, we understand that educating men and treating abusers is a crucial part of preventing future violence,” said Jody Susong, marketing and development officer at Family Service of the Piedmont. “The Father’s Day holiday is a good time to remember how essential healthy relationships are for us all, and this grant from Verizon will help us continue to train men to be better fathers and partners.”

The Domestic Violence Intervention Program offers group psycho-educational treatment for men and focuses on training participants in accountability, responsibility and learning non-violent, non-controlling behavior. The one-year program covers a wide spectrum of topics, including sessions on using non-threatening behavior, responsible parenting, economic development and honesty.
