Domestic violence prevention has long been a key social issue for Verizon Wireless. Through its HopeLine program more than 10 million phones have been collected to support survivors and nonprofit organizations.

Verizon Wireless recently received the Corporate Vision Award from Sanctuary for Families at its Zero Tolerance Benefit in New York City. The award highlights Verizon Wireless’ leadership and commitment to preventing and raising awareness about domestic violence.

Sanctuary for Families is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence. Recently, Sanctuary and Verizon Wireless partnered to launch the Verizon Entrepreneur Training Initiative. The initiative combines entrepreneurial workshops with computer training to help Sanctuary’s clients achieve their dream of launching and operating a small business. This unique venture empowers survivors of domestic violence as they establish economic independence.

Pro Patria Award

The award was one of two recent recognitions for Verizon Wireless. The company also received the Pro Patria Award from the Employee Support of the National Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for policies that support employee participation in the Guard and Reserve.

Established in 1972, ESGR was created to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve members and their civilian employers, and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.

Each year, the ESGR conducts an awards program to recognize employers who support a strong National Guard and Reserve force. Verizon Wireless was honored by the New Jersey branch of the ESGR with the Pro Patria Award. The Pro Patria Award is presented annually by each ESGR Committee to the one employer in their state or territory who has provided exceptional support of national defense through leadership practices and personnel policies that support their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

Verizon received the award during a luncheon at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Educational Center.
