CHATTANOOGA, TN — Verizon Wireless announced today it will soon expand the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to more places in the Chattanooga, Tenn. area.  The company initially launched 4G LTE in Chattanooga in July 2011 with coverage extending to surrounding areas like Fort Oglethorpe, Hixson and Ooltewah.  The lightning fast data network, which delivers speeds 10 times faster than 3G, provides customers with the best experience available in wireless data usage for surfing the Web, streaming music and video, downloading files or using apps.

“Soon more Verizon Wireless customers in the Scenic City will have access to our 4G LTE network,” said Jerry Fountain, president of Verizon Wireless’ Carolinas/Tennessee region.  “Currently, more than 85 percent of Tennessee’s population is able to experience the speed and benefits 4G LTE affords.”

Verizon’s 4G LTE network provides customers with tremendous speed for smartphones, tablets and hotspots, with data rates averaging 5-12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink in real-world, loaded network environments.  Verizon Wireless customers can also take advantage of HomeFusion Broadband, a solution that leverages the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to deliver high-speed, in-home Internet access for residential broadband, particularly where Internet options are limited or are not currently available.

The company’s 4G LTE service is available to more than 230 million people across the United States – nearly 75 percent of the U.S. population.  By year’s end, the company plans to cover more than 400 U.S. markets.
