JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Verizon Wireless announced today that customers in Missouri’s State Capitol building in Jefferson City will now be able to experience the speed and capabilities offered by its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network.  4G LTE service was introduced city-wide in June of this year, but additional improvements to the system now allow the signal to penetrate the walls of the capitol.  The enhanced coverage system known as a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) allows Verizon Wireless to provide robust 4G LTE coverage to customers including tough coverage areas like basement committee hearing rooms and areas shielded by marble and stone wall and floor construction.

The DAS was completed on July 6, 2012 and is now fully operational providing 4G LTE service to legislators, state workers, members of the media and Capitol visitors who have 4G LTE-capable devices activated on the Verizon Wireless network.  The system consists of a primary external antenna, two repeaters located in service areas of the Capitol and approximately 15 smaller antennas placed strategically throughout the complex. The only parts of the system easily visible to Capitol patrons are the small antennas that resemble smoke detectors in terms of appearance.

“We are proud to be able to serve Missouri’s capital city, and the Capitol building itself with superfast 4G LTE service,” said Brendan Fallis, president – Kansas/Missouri Region, Verizon Wireless.  “Every day in every way, Verizon Wireless works to continue to provide our customers with the best wireless experience in the U.S.”

Verizon Wireless customers can choose from the largest selection of 4G LTE devices to experience the nation’s fastest 4G network.  Devices include a variety of tablets, mobile hotspots, smartphones and more, including the Samsung Galaxy S® III and the DROID INCREDIBLE 4G LTE by HTC.  Details on available devices can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/4GLTE and information on plans and pricing is available at www.verizonwireless.com/plans.

Verizon Wireless also offers a variety of smart accessories that customers can use with their 4G LTE devices.  These accessories include the FitBit Ultra Wireless Activity Tracker, the Withings WiFi Scale and the Helo TC Touch Controlled Helicopter, among others.  A full list of smart accessories can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/smartaccessories.

Verizon Wireless customers can also take advantage of HomeFusion Broadband, a solution that leverages the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to deliver high-speed, in-home Internet access for residential broadband, particularly where Internet options are limited or are not currently available.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
