NASHVILLE, TN — Verizon Wireless announced today customers in Middle Tennessee will have access to its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in more places when the company expands its coverage area on Oct. 18.  With new and expanded markets on Thursday, the Verizon 4G LTE network will be available in more than 410 markets, surpassing the company’s goal of reaching 400 markets by year-end.

Nashville was among the first cities in the nation to get 4G LTE coverage when Verizon launched its first 38 markets in December 2010.  Coverage at that time extended to Brentwood, Columbia, Dickson, Franklin, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Kingston Springs, Lebanon, Manchester, Murfreesboro, Shelbyville, Spring Hill and Tullahoma.  In April of 2012, the company expanded its 4G LTE coverage to more than 25 additional cities and towns throughout Middle Tennessee.  With this planned network expansion, residents and visitors in more surrounding areas will have access to the nation’s fastest 4G network.

“Nashville was one of the first U.S. markets in the world to receive our 4G LTE network, which provides speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G for doing the things they want to do wirelessly, like surf the Web, download files, stream music and video, and keep up with family and friends,” said Jerry Fountain, president for Verizon Wireless’ Carolinas/Tennessee region.  “4G LTE is about more than just speed.  The technology is enabling new products and services that are transforming the wireless landscape.  The best of 4G LTE innovation is yet to come.”

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network covers nearly four out of five people in the U.S. and has more coverage than all other U.S. wireless providers combined.  In Tennessee, the company currently offers 4G LTE to more than 86 percent of the population, with coverage in the following markets and many of the surrounding areas:

  • Bristol
  • Chattanooga
  • Cookeville
  • Clarksville
  • Cleveland
  • Dyersburg
  • Greeneville
  • Jackson
  • Johnson City
  • Kingsport
  • Knoxville
  • Martin
  • Memphis
  • Nashville
  • Union City

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, customers using Verizon’s 4G LTE should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.  For more information and a current list of all Verizon’s 4G LTE markets, visit www.verizonwireless.com/lte.
