MORRISTOWN, NJ — On Monday afternoon Verizon Wireless reported more than 99% of its Network was serving customers across the Northeast.

On Tuesday, in its effort to assist those most severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey, Verizon Wireless provided communities and government agencies with more than a dozen mobile recharging stations, powered by generators. Many of these Wireless Emergency Communication Centers (WECCs) are also offering free voice calling and Wi-Fi Internet access.

Today Verizon Wireless teams continue to actively monitor weather forecasts for a potential Nor’easter along the East Coast. The company has plans to temporarily relocate some outdoor mobile recharging stations to protect the safety of employees and the community and to ensure the stations remain operable and ready to deploy when it’s safe to do so. An updated listing of locations and services can be found here.

Verizon Wireless encourages customers to visit the Verizon Wireless Emergency Preparedness site to find tips and information to help them stay connected before, during and after an emergency.

To date, more than $2 million dollars has been donated by Verizon Wireless customers via text to the American Red Cross. Additionally, Verizon employees have donated more than $300,000 towards relief efforts to assist those impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Customers can still make a $10 donation by texting REDCROSS to 90999. Those who would like to give more can donate up to $50 via text.
