As the internal incubator, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. subsidiary, Qualcomm Labs is constantly pursuing new market and product opportunities that drive the wireless industry forward. Today at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), we’re taking a big step in that direction with Qualcomm Labs’ first commercial demonstration of LTE Broadcast evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) in conjunction with a wireless provider – Verizon Wireless.

Now, more than ever, we see a clear demand for the efficient delivery of video over mobile networks. Qualcomm Technologies has been a pioneer in the evolution of broadcast technologies and we are now poised to lead the next generation of mobile broadcast over 4G LTE. LTE Broadcast allow wireless operators to exploit their existing spectrum, infrastructure and chipsets to help address the surging demand for data.

To meet these needs, Qualcomm Labs’ LTE Broadcast Middleware platform offers a cutting edge solution for high-quality live and non-real-time media services over LTE broadcast-enabled networks. LTE Broadcast provides a number of fundamental advantages in this area with the operational flexibility to turn on broadcast services when and where needed. Also, by being a full part of the 4G LTE ecosystem, LTE Broadcast significantly lowers any technical or commercial barriers to device and infrastructure availability.

We are excited to be collaborating with Verizon Wireless and infrastructure provider Ericsson to bring this technology demonstration to life at 2013 CES.  Please stop by the Qualcomm Exhibit (LVCC, South Hall 3, Upper Level #30313) and the Verizon booth (LVCC, South Hall, #31400) at CES to see the live demos.
