Two San-Antonio based companies were recently crowed winners at the Verizon Wireless Technology Innovation Awards luncheon in Austin for creative ways they have used 4G LTE to grow their business.

San Antonio Bike Share, which operates 23 bicycle stations and 230 bikes, won in the small business category. The company uses Verizon Wireless USB modems for Internet access and connects bike stations to the server so the company can monitor the status of all kiosks and virtually dock and undock bicycles. San Antonio Bike Share is committed to providing city dwellers and visitors with a sustainable, clean and alternative way of transportation.

Health care provider eHealth Screenings won the medium business category. eHealth Screenings uses tablets and a proprietary software system to collect medical data from patients at onsite health screening events. eHealth Screenings said using tablets to transmit information from onsite screenings has improved efficiency and boosted customer satisfaction levels.

More than 50 companies and non-profit organizations in the three participating cities – Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio – were entered for the award. It is designed to recognize and reward small to medium-sized businesses for their innovative use of wireless communications. Winners were selected after a month-long period of thorough evaluation. Each earned a prize of $10,000 in cash.
