Verizon Wireless And 100 Black Men Launch 2013 Black History Month Essay Contest

WHAT:                                 
February is Black History Month and Verizon Wireless is honoring African-Americans by sponsoring the St. Louis chapter of 100 Black Men Black History Month Essay Contest.                                                              

BACKGROUND:                
The essay contest is part of a High School English program in selected public and private schools in St. Louis with the topic of “How would Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas or Dred Scott use today’s technology (smartphones, tablets, social media, etc.) to further their cause?”

Essays are due to the 100 Black Men office by Feb. 28. Voting will take place March 4-8. Winners will be announced on March 11 at www.100BlackMenSTL.com and at a winners’ reception on March 16 at the 100 Black Men headquarters on Delmar Blvd.  

The top three winners will receive money towards a scholarship on behalf of 100 Black Men (1^st place: $1,500; 2^nd place: $1,000; 3^rd place: $500) and be awarded a tablet from Verizon Wireless as well as four tickets to an upcoming St. Louis Blues hockey game.
