KANSAS CITY, MO — Verizon Wireless is bringing out its own pinch-hitter during Kansas City’s 2013 baseball season home opener to ensure that thousands of fans attending the game can use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive email and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The cell on light truck (COLT), or temporary cell site, enables Verizon Wireless to increase its 4G LTE network capacity for voice and data transmissions during special events when increased network demand is expected. The COLT will add wireless voice and data capacity to the stadium area while Kansas City lines up against Minnesota on April 8.

The ability to meet or exceed network demand, even on a short-term basis, is part of the company’s commitment to stay ahead of the growing need for Verizon Wireless’ voice and data services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $805 million on improvements to its network in Missouri.
