Coverage quality is the number one concern for wireless consumers, according to the results of a survey by Rysavy Research and NetMotion Wireless released in March. Connectivity challenges and troubleshooting difficulties are also major burdens for the more than 400 professionals who participated in this survey.
Wireless network testers work incessantly to address these issues. They prowl hundreds of thousand miles of highways and country roads each year, constantly testing network availability and coverage access. These high-tech sleuths tirelessly crisscross the country, making millions of calls, texts, uploads, and other data connections. They are regularly testing the quality of Verizon Wireless coverage and how it stacks up to the competition.
In addition to ensuring consistent network reliability, wireless companies also prepare for emergencies. For example, the Verizon Wireless network infrastructure is designed to weather natural disasters and other catastrophes. Tens of thousands of cell sites and 148 switching facilities nationwide are reinforced with back-up power in case of a power outage. These “Super Switch” centers, which route voice and data traffic for a region, are built with a wide array of the most advanced technology and designed to withstand category 5 hurricanes and other types of natural disasters while maintaining service in the most uncompromising environments.
