It was the nation’s worst wildland firefighting tragedy since 1933.  Nineteen men lost their lives on Sunday, June 30, while fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona. Businesses and individuals throughout the Grand Canyon state and across the nation have come forward to assist in the wildfire relief.

Knowing that mobile technology is an essential part of the toolkit for fighting fires, Verizon Wireless provided 4G LTE routers and phones to help emergency personnel coordinating the fire crews.  Jetpacks were dispatched to assist in the shelters for evacuated residents.

The local community has also rallied to help the families of the fallen firefighters.  In memory of Prescott, Arizona’s Granite Mountain Hotshots, the Verizon Foundation donated $10,000 to the 100 Club of Arizona, an organization that supports families of fallen firefighters and police officers.
