Verizon’s Powerful Answers Award is moving to its final stage. Earlier this month, 10 finalists in each of three focus areas – sustainability, health care and education – were told they had made it to the final round of the program. Finalists have the opportunity to hear from Verizon leaders about what the company is doing to foster new ideas and work with Verizon’s Innovation Program to polish their submissions.

The submissions range from innovative ways to apply broadband, wireless and cloud networks to address issues from pest control to how to support ongoing disaster relief programs around the world to potential ways to help prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, to name a few. Many of the submissions are from start-up and entrepreneurial companies, while others are from more established companies looking to expand their product lines.

Verizon’s Powerful Answers Award was introduced earlier this year at CES 2013, and the Award program officially launched in April. More than 1,300 ideas were submitted. Verizon worked with MassChallenge to organize the judging through crowdsource judges from the innovation community. They narrowed the submissions to the 30 finalists. Verizon has assembled a strong panel of judges to determine the money-winning ideas. Final round presentations will take place later this month, with the winners to be announced at CES 2014 in January.
