The Verizon Wireless network is ready for the tens of thousands of fans heading to Austin in March to enjoy this year’s annual music, film and interactive media conference and festival. Network technicians have made preparations to help ensure peak performance for Austin residents and conference-goers so they can enjoy the event without worrying about their wireless service as they make calls, send text messages, upload photos and videos and download music.

To prepare for the event, Verizon Wireless network teams have enhanced coverage and increased capacity at all of the sites covering this event, including the Austin Convention Center, downtown Austin, 6th Street and Auditorium Shores. Additionally, visitors flying in and out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport have access to Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network.

Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to use Softcard Mobile Wallet* around the city, as Austin was one of the first established markets for the mobile payment app. Softcard, a virtual wallet that safely stores eligible credit cards, participating loyalty cards and coupons in one place, provides a convenient and secure way for customers with select Android and iOS smartphones to pay for a wide variety of goods at select merchants.

With technology front and center, visitors will have the wireless network to keep them connected throughout the festival, allowing them to check with colleagues, receive email updates and access visitor information on their devices.

“This is an exciting event in Austin. We understand how important it is for our customers to be able to capture and share their experiences,” said Lee Maschmann, Central Texas (CTX) Executive Director for Network at Verizon Wireless. “At a large festival or gathering, we put great efforts in enhancing our network because customer experience is a top priority for us.”

*UPDATE: Google and Softcard have completed an agreement that will leverage the best technology from both companies to create a more robust mobile wallet for consumers. The mobile payment system will keep the Google Wallet name. Read more here.
