Everything You Need to Know About Wireless Workshops

You know your new smartphone or tablet is a powerhouse, ready to keep you connected to people, media, music and more. However, you may have more questions than connections:

How do I set up multiple emails accounts? Where do I download apps? How can I video chat?

Verizon Wireless offers free classes to answer all those questions. Khimberly Acosta, an experience specialist who leads Wireless Workshops at the Verizon Wireless store in Bridgewater, N.J., explains what the workshops are all about. 

Q. What are Wireless Workshops?

A. Wireless Workshops are classes designed to help customers understand the many things that their smartphones and tablets can do. Whether it’s a customer switching from a basic phone to a smartphone, or someone who just wants a broader knowledge of their device, the class helps them. Classes generally last an hour with time for questions afterwards.

Q. Are different types of workshops offered?

A. We teach iPhone, Android and tablet classes. They help customers understand the basic elements of their mobile devices such as setting up emails, updating their contact lists and setting up video chat capabilities. We also teach app classes to demonstrate which apps are best for tasks such as navigating, saving money or traveling.

Q. What workshops are the most popular?
A. People seem to really enjoy the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S4 classes. Those smartphones receive frequent software updates, so our workshops help owners keep pace with new features and capabilities.

Q. What’s the atmosphere like at a workshop?

A. The workshops offer a comfortable and fun environment to learn. All the Experience Specialists are knowledgeable and friendly, and try to reduce any stress or confusion customers may have at first. In fact, attendees can even email us after the workshop if they have questions that come up in the future.

Q. What’s your favorite part about teaching these workshops?

A. I love seeing people’s faces light up when they discover something new that their phones can do – especially if it’s something that makes their lives easier.

Q.  Are any experiences especially memorable to you?

A. I remember one man in particular. He traveled often for work, but still liked to keep in touch with his family. I showed him how to use video chat on his smartphone. He was able to see his children despite being thousands of miles away. This is just one example of how smartphones can help make and maintain those important connections with friends and family.
