The mobile device has changed the consumer lifestyle and, some would say, has become indispensible. In addition to using smartphones to stay in touch, consumers rely on wireless devices to do everything from checking news, weather and stocks and keeping track of appointments to managing everyday activities such as paying for groceries, ordering theater tickets and even regulating thermostats at home. A powerful wireless network is the essential element that makes it all work.

Verizon Wireless has continued its long-standing commitment to offer its customers a superior network experience, and a series of metro and airport studies, issued by RootMetrics in the first half of 2014, lends further support to that claim.

In independent testing conducted by RootMetrics as part of its bi-annual RootScore® Reports for metro markets in the United States, Verizon Wireless ranked first or tied for first in 115 of 125 RootMetrics metro reports in overall network performance, more than any other among the four national carriers.

Verizon Wireless also ranked first or tied for first in 30 of 50 RootMetrics Airport RootScore Reports, which measured data network performance in the first half of 2014: more wins than any other national wireless carrier tested. Verizon Wireless won or tied for data network performance in four of the top five largest airports in the United States – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL); Chicago O’Hare International (ORD); Los Angeles International (LAX); and Denver International (DEN).

RootScore Reports are designed to characterize the consumer experience, measuring the overall network experience, including reliability; speed; and call, data and text performance, according to the Seattle-based independent mobile-analytics firm.

“The availability and the breadth of wireless networks to handle the exponential increase in data use from mobile customers is paramount to providing consumers with a solid network experience,” said Bill Moore, CEO and President, RootMetrics. “Our RootScore Reports look at a network’s reliability and speed, as well as data, call and text performance to test how consumers really experience networks. Winning a RootScore Award points to the strength of the Verizon Wireless network.”

Verizon Wireless introduced its 4G LTE network in 2010 and presently has more than 500 markets covered – giving access to 97 percent of the U.S. population – with more than twice the square miles of any other wireless provider in the U.S.

In 2013, the company began adding network capacity, using its AWS spectrum, branded as XLTE, to ensure that it stays ahead of customer demand for access to its popular 4G LTE network.  To date, Verizon Wireless has deployed XLTE in more than 300 markets across the United States. RootMetrics used XLTE Ready devices to test the Verizon Wireless networks in all markets this year.

In March 2014, RootMetrics released its first-ever National RootScore Report where Verizon Wireless was the Overall RootScore Award winner and the leader in the state rankings with wins or ties for first place for Overall network performance in 45 states. That study was created to characterize the consumer mobile network performance experience at a national and state level.

Whether driving around town running errands or boarding a plane to head to visit a new city, the Verizon Wireless network offers its consumers the best of all the factors adding up to an excellent mobile experience – throughout the country.

Rankings of first in 59 cities and tied for first in 56 cities out of 125 total cities studied based on RootMetrics® Metro RootScore® reports published in the 1st half of 2014; first in 23 and tied for first in 7 out of 50 total airports studied based on RootMetrics Airport RootScore reports published in the 1st half of 2014; and RootMetrics US National RootScore Report covering July-December 2013.
