Thousands of Baltimore County youth and their families gathered at Security Square Mall on August 23 for the third Annual Back to School Festival. Students kicked off another school year with free school supplies, information on mobile devices that can enhance learning both inside and outside the classroom, and an afternoon of fun and activities courtesy of Verizon Wireless and other event sponsors.

Kevin Liles, former president of DefJam Records and founder of Kevin Liles for a Better Baltimore, hosted the event with Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamanetz and Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance. Each host shared words of encouragement, stressed the importance of a good education, and urged students to work hard and do well.

Verizon Wireless has been a proud and early sponsor of the Back to School Festival. This year, the company raffled off two Kindle Fires and handed out Verizon Wireless earphones, pens, bags, sunglasses and water bottles. Attendees also learned about various Verizon Wireless products and services like new education applications and tablets.

Earlier this month, Verizon Wireless also participated in Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s annual Back to School Rally, which is a communitywide event for Baltimore City Public School students and their families held at the War Memorial Plaza. This motivational pep rally enabled parents and students to get information about school programs, participate in health and wellness activities and screenings, and learn about various community resources. Free backpacks, school supplies and childhood immunizations were given to attendees, and Verizon Wireless provided giveaways and information on technology in the classroom at the rally.

Both back-to-school events allowed Verizon Wireless to participate in important outreach activities that enable the company to continue to be a part of the communities where Verizon Wireless customers and employees reside and work.
