The Houston/Gulf Coast region kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month launching the ‘Catch A Culprit’ campaign with the Houston Sheriff Department and Crime Stoppers of Houston.

Houston/Gulf Coast Region Director of Business Sales, Tyrone Rice, awarded Crime Stoppers a $15,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation in support of the domestic violence fugitive apprehension program. Verizon’s grant will also enable Crime Stoppers to provide public awareness and education on domestic violence-related issues.

The check presentation was attended by law enforcement, domestic violence agencies, local media and community supporters. Rice was joined at the podium by Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, District Attorney Devon Anderson and Crime Stoppers Executive Director Rania Mankarious.

Throughout October, Crime Stoppers will demonstrate its support for Verizon’s HopeLine program in many ways, including:

  • Working with domestic violence agencies and partners to promote HopeLine initiatives and Verizon’s dedication to ending domestic violence.

  • Focusing on capturing domestic violence fugitives, and bringing them to justice.
  • Promoting HopeLine online and in the news to help drive donations in-store.

Following the press conference, Crime Stoppers representatives led a Safe Community Seminar featuring testimonials from the clinical community, Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse and from domestic violence survivors themselves.
