RootMetrics® Ranks Verizon Wireless Tops in Performance Rankings for Salt Lake City, its airport, and the state of Utah

For the third consecutive time, Verizon Wireless received the highest award for overall network performance in Utah’s capitol city.

RootMetrics, an independent mobile analytics firm based in Seattle, released its eight Salt Lake City RootScore® report and, for the third time, Verizon Wireless received the highest award for overall network performance in a market known for commerce, outdoor recreation and tourism. Verizon was also named the top carrier for data performance at the SLC airport for the third consecutive time. Last month, RootMetrics named Verizon as the highest ranked carrier in overall performance across the state of Utah in the second half of 2014.

Each RootScore is calculated from a combination of tests that are weighted to reflect the impact that a consumer would experience. Salt Lake City metro scores were based on RootMetrics testing performed between February 25 and March 1, 2015, where the company ranked the four major U.S. wireless providers in six network performance categories: Overall, Reliability, Speed, Data, Call and Text.

RootMetrics drove 782 miles across the Salt Lake City metro area, as well as testing many indoor locations. The company said its study was designed to portray a typical consumer mobile network performance experience.

“RootMetrics uses well-grounded testing methods so customers can have complete confidence in their results as reliable and accurate,” said Chris Lewter, regional president of Verizon Wireless. “We believe these latest results demonstrate that no one invests in wireless infrastructure as aggressively as Verizon because we are committed to giving customers the very best, most reliable network experience.”

Verizon operates the nation’s largest and most reliable 4G LTE network.

In mid-2014, Verizon Wireless rolled out its latest XLTE network technology in Salt Lake City and Ogden areas. XLTE utilizes Verizon’s AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum to double 4G LTE network capacity. Greater capacity means more customers at once can send photos, download videos, surf the internet and more at peak speeds on their smartphones, tablets and other devices.

While XLTE network enhancements are invisible to the customer, the mobile experience is not. XLTE-ready devices automatically access both 700 MHz spectrum and the AWS spectrum in XLTE cities, such as New York. XLTE adds capacity in neighborhoods or areas where demand is high, especially during busy periods like rush hour, lunch times in crowded areas or during events when mobile data use is the highest.
