Verizon Ushers Unsigned Indie Bands into the Limelight with Musica Unsigned Program

By on March 18, 2015

Welcome to the stage, Musica Unsigned.

Musica Unsigned is a Verizon initiative in collaboration with Cookman/Nacional Records, that’s designed to help little-known indie artists take center stage. The initiative encourages some 30 unsigned bands - from the states of Washington, Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah or the city of El Paso in Texas - to compete for a once in a lifetime opportunity: a recording session in a world-class studio alongside a Grammy Award-winning producer Andres Levin.

The competition is simple. The 30 unsigned bands from across the western states have the chance to win a public vote that is hosted on the specially created Musica Unsigned website. The site will keep track of the entire initiative – hosting all the music, details of the bands, pictures, music videos and ongoing social media activity – and of course tracking the current rankings of the competing bands. It’s a Battle of the Bands competition of sorts, with the difference being that the digital debutantes take their showdown to cyberspace.

What’s more, Verizon is not just simply hosting the competition, but decking out every competing band with a Verizon Tool Kit to help them break through. It takes a lot more than a couple of guitars, a microphone and a catchy tune to make it these days. Musicians need the technology and the know-how to connect with fans, music lovers and other content creators around the world.

The Verizon Tool Kit will provide every competing band with some of the latest Sony devices, including an HD camera to create signature music videos, a smartphone, and a tablet, as well as a Verizon Jetpack mobile hotspot to keep them connected with their fans and music lovers. The competing bands will also receive a digital booklet with tips, tricks and industry contacts in their respective regions to help them on their way. Verizon will essentially be the ultimate digital roadie for these indie bands on their great adventure.

The Tool Kit will help bands tackle the biggest challenge artists and content creators face if they want to get signed - impact.  Verizon’s Musica Unsigned is all about helping them to make that first step, facilitating and enabling that exposure and connection –to make an impact. The initiative will give local indie bands the tools, impetus and platform to step out of mom and dad’s garage and onto the national stage, where they’ll get to share their music and their artistry with as many people as possible.

The voting begins March 16th. Please don’t hesitate to get involved, share your favorite band’s music, or get in touch on Twitter using the hashtag #MusicaUnsigned. And of course, don’t forget to vote for your favorite to help them win this amazing opportunity to get some studio time with one of the music industry’s most decorated producers.
