Customers celebrate five years of LTE in Rural America

The main goal of Verizon’s LTE in Rural America (LRA) program is to bring the broad benefits of 4G LTE service, quickly and efficiently, to customers in rural markets.  It’s all about serving the customer – consumer and business – no matter where they live, work or play.

Since the initial announcement of LRA in a Wall Street Journal article on May 13, 2010, the program has expanded to cover nearly 2.4 million people and more than 100,000 square miles.  Twenty-one wireless companies participate with Verizon to offer the advanced services.

Verizon believes it is important to deliver its reliable network experience to the customer in areas which are remote and, in some industries, underserved.

The working relationship between Verizon and rural carriers provides a solid business model, including: 700 MHz Upper C Spectrum Lease Through 2029; access to core network and a roaming agreement on Verizon’s national 4G LTE network.  Among the items contributed by the regional networks are cell towers and equipment shelters, roaming agreements and local branding and marketing.
