With technology continuously being integrated into classrooms across the country, students are increasingly becoming more tech-savvy and using smart devices including tablets or smartphones to further their education.

A study conducted by Project Tomorrow in 2013 revealed that 64 percent of students surveyed are primarily using 3G- or 4G-enabled devices to connect to the internet as opposed to a traditional computer. As part of the organization’s national initiative, Speak Up, the same annual study two years later found that nearly half of the 431,241 students polled regularly use videos as part of their homework.

With this in mind, parents can equip their children with the tools they need in and out of today’s digital classroom. Whether students are in grade school or entering their senior year of high school, consider these educational apps and accessories to keep your kids engaged and focused on their schoolwork.

Get ahead on studying

There are few things worse than knowing your child is staying up late to cram for a test the next morning – especially if they’re pulling you in at midnight to quiz them on the plot of To Kill a Mockingbird or, potentially worse, how to divide decimals. To prevent those future all-night study sessions, utilize the Quizlet app to make studying entertaining. Users can create their own flashcards, play study games or use other simple tools, all while on the go.

Additionally, make sure your students are staying on top of their assignments with the Blackboard Mobile Learn™ app.  Serving more than 20 million students from kindergarten to senior year, the service makes it easier for students to keep up with courses and interact directly with instructors.

Keep lessons at your fingertips

This comes down to personal preference, but with tablets often replacing computers and laptops, a physical keyboard such as the Logitech Bluetooth Multi-Device Keyboard can come in handy for students who are typing papers or consistently completing homework assignments with their smart device. The Logitech device enables the ability to easily switch between writing an assignment on a tablet to responding to a text message on a smartphone from a classmate.

In addition, a stylus like the Bamboo Stylus Solo will ease surfing the web and conducting research for a book report.

Brush up on fractions

Addition, subtraction, division: sure, they seem like simple equations; however, basic arithmetic can be more challenging than it appears. Keep your kids’ math skills in top shape with the XtraMath app, which helps with the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills that serve as a building block of success in math.

Protect your resources

If you have younger children, putting your trust in them to handle their tablet with care can be a daunting task.

Keep their smart device safe with a protective cover such as the OtterBox Defender Series. Additionally, make sure to keep files and projects safe by using the Dropbox mobile app. The cloud-based service syncs documents, photos and videos across multiple platforms.

Stay fueled up

While there are plenty of studies and research on brain foods and healthy snacking to empower brain activity, it’s also important to keep your smart device juiced up on the fuel it needs to keep going – battery power. The mophie powerstation mini will quickly charge any USB device including your tablet, and is small enough to carry in your pocket.
