Modern day workouts have come a long way from Richard Simmon’s Sweatin' to the Oldies VHS collection.

With fitness studios like SoulCycle and Pop Physique providing more creative exercise routines, workout fiends are finding more innovative ways to get fit.

Diana Newton, co-owner of FitMix Studio in Los Angeles, CA, offers a unique, customized workout. What’s her twist? You can join Newton’s hour-long workouts at her studio, or for those constantly on-the-go, Newton offers Fitness on the Go, a workout regimen on mobile video.

“Clients kept coming to us, looking for workouts they can do when they are traveling or out of town,” said Newton. “Clients can now access short video tutorials on their smartphone or tablet, using whatever resources they happen to have with them. We made these videos to eliminate the guesswork and remove the guilt from working out alone.”

Consumers are more often searching for personalized interactions through digital devices to help curate workout programs from anywhere. Fitness professionals are turning to technology to bring their expertise beyond the gym to answer this demand.

Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott, the Southern California-based trainers behind Tone It Up, have more than 490K subscribers on their YouTube channel that offers followers never ending exercise and nutrition inspiration. The duo is widely known for their eBook, Tone It Up: 28 Days to Fit, Fierce, and Fabulous, which provides a 28-day plan for a healthier life.

In addition to books and videos, fitness apps like Fitocracy and PumpUp provide everything you need to help you get in shape without even entering a gym. They can pair you with an expert coach, provide personalized nutrition plans and share special workouts. Plus they give the user online accountability and a supportive environment that can be accessed wirelessly.

Armed with tablets and smartphones, you no longer have to worry about finding the nearest gym in order to work up a sweat.
