“While GoPro Mountain Games athletes are working hard and competing in rugged and wet environments, it’s only appropriate that Kyocera’s Military Standard durable smartphones support this outdoor challenge on Verizon’s top-notch network,” said Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of global sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications Inc.  “The terrain of Vail Valley is no match for a device that’s waterproof and can stand up to drops, shocks and extreme temperatures.”

Since the 2014 GoPro Mountain Games, Verizon has been expanding its 4G LTE and XLTE network and increase capacity not only on the slopes of Vail, but also throughout Vail Village and Beaver Creek Village.

“An event like this brings out the extremes and Verizon has been building extreme reliability into our 4G LTE network capacity in the area,” said Chris Lewter, regional president of Verizon Wireless. “I’m excited athletes and fans will be able to stream video, upload photos, and Tweet with extreme ease on our network.”

This collaboration allows the toughest athletes on the mountain to stay connected on Colorado’s largest and most reliable 4G LTE network and the nation’s leading ruggedized smartphones, like the Kyocera Brigadier. Available exclusively through Verizon Wireless, the Brigadier features a tough and durable design with Military Standard 810G protection against threats of dust, low pressure/high altitude, and water immersion for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 6 feet, among others.

Competition begins on Thursday, June 4th at Copper Mountain in Vail and will wrap up on Sunday, June 7th.

The nation’s largest celebration of adventure sports, music and mountain lifestyles returns to Vail, Colorado June 4-7, 2015 for its 14th anniversary celebration.

The GoPro Mountain Games will feature some of the toughest extreme athletes from around the world competing for $110,000 in prize money. It will also feature Kyocera and Verizon as the official and exclusive wireless partners.

Approximately 3,000 outdoor athletes and more than 60,000 spectators will converge on Vail’s rugged mountains and swirling rivers for competitions in nine sports and 25 disciplines, as well as a variety of outdoor lifestyle activities. Kyocera is the Official Sponsor of the “Ultimate Mountain Challenge,” which is a true test of athletic skill, power and endurance. Athletes will compete in several races to be crowned the ultimate winner, including the 10K Sprint Runoff,

X-Country Mountain Bike, Road Bike Time Trial, and the Class II Down River Sprint (or SUP Surf Sprint).
