Many things in our lives come in familiar sizes.  Morning coffee?  A medium, please.  New t-shirt?  That’s a large – at least for now.  From small to XXL, everyone understands these common sizing options.

Verizon is now making it just-that-easy for customers to choose wireless service on the nation’s best 4G LTE network.

Beginning September 9, our newest price plan will offer five easy sizes of data to match how our customers use wireless service.  These new data options come in sizes just like other things we buy:

  • Small: $30/month for 1GB of shareable data
  • Medium: $45/month for 3GB of shareable data
  • Large: $60/month for 6GB of shareable data
  • X-Large: $80/month for 12GB of shareable data
  • XX-Large: $100/month for 18GB of shareable data

And each size comes with unlimited talk and text, with extra data for just $15 per GB.  Customers who need even more data can talk with their Verizon Wireless representative for more details.

“Choosing a wireless plan is now easier than ever.  Customers said they don’t want to have to do a lot of math to figure out their best options, and we heard them,” said Rob Miller, vice-president of consumer pricing for Verizon Wireless.  “A plan with small, medium, large and x-large choices makes sense for the way people actually use their wireless service.”

Plan access plus line access plus equipment equals agreat experience

Verizon is simplifying further by streamlining monthly line-access charges.  On the new plan, every smartphone line is $20 per month, tablet and Jetpack lines are $10 per month, and connected device lines for devices like smart watches are $5 per month, all the time.  Customers always get the best options and don’t have to hunt for – and calculate – special discounts to get the best prices.  And the S-M-L and XL data options can be shared up to 10 devices.

New Verizon customers who want to take advantage of the new plan may do so by buying a new smartphone using Verizon’s device payment option, formerly known as Verizon Edge, or by paying the retail price.  Current customers can keep their existing plan or move to the new plan, with some restrictions.

“We were the first to introduce shared data plans more than three years ago, and our new S-M-L-XL-XXL options build on that success, using the insights our customers have provided since then,” Miller added.

Over the next few months, Verizon customers will also see a simpler and more streamlined bill, making it easier to see and understand monthly charges.

Verizon’s earlier post about new simplified data choices generated lots of media stories that explained these great new options for customers.  New customers buzzed about the value offered by the new Verizon Data Plan – and yet something very important was muted a bit: if you’re a Verizon customer on a 2-year contract, you can absolutely stay on that plan.

  • Now that the dust has settled, here are answers to some other questions we’ve received:
  • Customers who choose the new plan with device payments will still spread the cost of their phone or tablet evenly over 24 interest free months, and they will be able to upgrade anytime once the device is paid in full.  Customers own their devices once paid-in-full – there’s no requirement to turn it in when they upgrade.
  • Yes, Verizon customers can keep and renew their two-year contract, and take advantage of any subsidized devices we offer as part of that contract. (A good example: you’ve been waiting to buy a soon-to-be-launched smartphone on Verizon’s network.  Yes, you can renew your current contract once that cool new handset launches – and take advantage of subsidized contract pricing).
  • Current customers can move to the new Verizon Plan whenever you wish, or stay on your current plan (no matter if on month-to-month, two-year contract or device payment plan). If you have a current two-year agreement and move over to the new plan, the line access charge will be $40 and not $20. Upon reaching your next upgrade eligibility date, that $40 line access charge will drop to $20 automatically.
  • You can keep all the benefits of your current price plan – until you decide to change to the new Verizon Plan (but once you change, you cannot go back).
  • Are you a current customer under contract who wants to add a new line? No problem – just add it to your existing price plan.
  • Yes, you can keep your 2-year contract pricing plan and still purchase a new device via the monthly device installment option.
  • Current Edge customers can switch to the new Verizon Plan now, and continue to pay for their device via the installment option.

Our sole intention of this new pricing is to make things more simple for our customers – so you know exactly what you’re paying for and how you’re saving.
