According to U.S. News, New York City is home to over 20 colleges and universities. In “The City That Never Sleeps,” it’s no surprise that students are constantly on the go. With little time to spare between classes, internships and city gridlock, students are able to do more and still find time to relax, thanks to the help of mobile technology.

CAMPUS INFORMATION

Universities are recognizing the power of mobile.

  • For New York University students, check out NYU Mobile to constantly stay in the know, including checking out today’s dining hall menu, determining the date of the next career fair and even exploring a feature called “Safe Ride.” If you are at an NYU building and it’s after midnight, simply ring Safe Ride through the app and you’ll be dropped off at your dorm (for free)!
  • Students at Pace University can install MyPace Mobile to easily locate classes, view class rosters and obtain important phone numbers.
  • The Mobile Barnard app for students at Barnard College provides social updates and even self-guided tours.

FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD

I think we’ve all needed to grab lunch or a cup of coffee with less than a minute or two to spare. With Tapingo, you can place an order, pay for it and pick it up without waiting in a 20-minute line. Tapingo is also available on many college campuses in the area.

Pizza anyone? If you’re still hungry, try Seamless. This app focuses on food delivery, feeding hungry students and their late night cravings.

SPLITTING THE CHECK . . . BETWEEN THREE CARDS

Send cash to anyone on the Venmo app. Gone are the days spent splitting checks between three credit cards - simply have one person pay and everyone can easily ‘Venmo’ that person their amount.

ORGANIZATION IS KEY TO SUCCESS

Google Calendar is an essential tool for most students. Create your schedule in the palm of your hand, easily viewing upcoming classes, meetings, study sessions or dinners with friends. Also, share your study calendar with friends and succeed together!

COLLABORATE AND COMMUNICATE

College is all about collaboration, whether it’s for class or a club. Slack is a free platform used to effectively communicate, share team projects with classmates and get work done!

STAY CONNECTED

The last thing you want is to miss an important message. Whether it’s regarding a cancelled class or an internship interview, make sure you have a reliable wireless network behind the messaging platform you use to guarantee you stay connected.
