The upgraded memory, processor, and memory card slot are definitely improvements. The DNA transitioned between functions more smoothly, never locked up when scrolling, and the single speaker with Beats Audio sounds better than the upgraded two speaker system on the M9. If I were presented with a brand new HTC DNA and M9 I would choose the DNA. The Uh Oh protection is the feature that finalized my decision to purchase the M9. Great idea and great customer service - thanks HTC! see less

I chose the M9 because I wanted removable memory, the free Uh Oh protection, and the $100 Google Play credit. That was a no brainer.

I chose the M9 because I wanted removable memory, the free Uh Oh protection, and the $100 Google Play credit. That was a no brainer.
Some people have commented about the battery life being bad. I find it to be just the opposite, if you know how to setup the phone properly. Follow these simple steps:
Get the firmware update first before anything else.
Turn off Data, Bluetooth and WiFi until they are needed. I don't see the point in having apps constantly checking for stuff 24/7. If I want to check email or browse the internet, I turn on one or the other, do what I need to and then turn them off. Apps that constantly run in the background will chew your battery (and data) up. You can still make phone calls and send/receive text messages with them off...which is the main point in having a phone.
Turn down the screen brightness and make the timeout one minute or less. I have the screen brightness set to 50% and it is perfect. If you are going to put the phone down, go ahead and tap the power button on the side and have it shut the screen off immediately. Tap it again when you pick the phone back up to turn the screen back on. Very simple.
Don't use a Live wallpaper. They look cool, but they chew the battery up. Your screen is the biggest battery consumer. Go with a darker picture or background.
You can leave Auto Sync on as it won't do anything until it has a Data or WiFi connection.
You can leave Location Services on as they won't do anything without a connection.
You can leave Extreme Power Saving Mode off, but set it to kick in automatically at 10% or 20%.
I can go all day on a single charge with medium use. If you are constantly streaming video, playing games or having stuff sync 24/7 then yes your battery will be consumed before the end of the day. Duh! see less

I was looking for an "upgrade" once my S4 started needing restarted 3 times a day to function right, and came between the One M9 and Galaxy S5 debate. (S6 was out, i will not even look at a phone unless it takes the MicroSD card) The S5 is just S4 with a slightly bigger screen, if I was updating it was going to be for something other than what I already have so that made me look into the M9 closer..i ended up purchasing this phone yesterday and I just have to say wow! I love it! it does NOT come with 100 apps prestocked you cant get rid of like the Galaxy, MUCH better speakers! you have 2 ways to choose from to listen ( dolby theater surround or "normal") I am constantly listening to music or watching something on my phone so this is one of the features that sold it for me..the Galaxy I could barely hear anything and the M9 is loud and the surround out of the top and bottom FRONT speakers is AWESOME!
Ive seen reviews about the power button being in a bad place .. well I don't even have to use the button. AT ALL . I swipe up to turn it on and there's a navigation bar at the bottom you can customize, I put a power button on there and when Im done just tap it and the phone is off! for those of you that would rather not have that on there, you can substitute the power button for a "hide navigation bar" button.
overall, im loving this phone. The camera is good, no better or worse than my Galaxy. and I can customize almost everything.

The phones are top-notch build quality. Even though the design isn't a huge departure from the M8 it is still the best looking smartphone on the market. The camera still isn't the best on the market even after the update, but it works well-enough. The device has speed to spare and the battery has been a pleasant surprise considering the reviews online. Once I started carrying the device in my case with the power-button up instead of down, I have 40-50% battery life past midnight from a day starting at 7am. I think I would be in the minority to prefer the power button on top, but I use a holster that has the phone laying on its side. Overall, very pleased with the phone! see less

My first consideration on replacing my current phone is whether I can hear telephone conversations on the street; the M9 does it beautifully. The feature which supposedly learns you favorite apps is a pain...can be made to disappear. Unlike my last phone, one can move part of the apps to the microSD card. Being an audiologist and one who is hearing impaired, but can hear the phone without a hearing aid in place, I believe the industry misses the boat with regard to reviews. I would like to see standardized measures of intensity, dynamic range and distortion of the phone's receiver, published to allow prospective buyers to make an informed decision regarding how they may function during phone calls. After all, isn't the key idea of purchasing a phone is to make phone calls? The growing numbers of baby-boomers, frequently having progressive hearing loss, would appreciate the information and have the money to buy these things! see less

Just stepped up from the HTC One M7 to the M9 and not disappointed. Lots of reviews have complained about the power button location, new camera and overheating none of which have been any problem for me.
*The power button is easily found on the center-right side and is easier to access then the M7's.
*The camera is a huge improvement over the M7's Ultra-pixel design. Have had good results in all lighting situations. There are good resources for manually adjusting settings if desired for the best results.
*The overheating issues claimed to be due to the newish Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor are a non-issue on my M9. I haven't experienced any excessive heat since setting up the phone a couple of weeks ago which included the latest updates.
*Battery life is better than my M7 was ... all day under normal use (for me) - Twitter, FB, video viewing, email, web viewing/reading and other basic stuff.
*I am probably in the minority on this, but prefer HTC's LCD3 display over AMOLED models - easier to see and a more natural look. The larger 5.0 inch screen is a plus and the 1080 resolution is more than adequate while conserving some battery life.
*Speakers are the best available - better than the M7's and can't speak to the lower volume issue I've read about. Plenty of quality volume on my M9. I spend a lot of time outside on the patio and the speakers can be heard easily over traffic, birds, and airplane noise (near a National Airport flight path in Arlington, VA).
Very happy with yet another winner HTC model and hope they survive another couple of years to show what else they can cook up. Have never understood why they can't regain their initial popularity. Their products are still top-notch even if their marketing can't match Samsung, et al. see less

Like many I was deciding between the Galaxy s6 and the HTC one m9. I am coming from a galaxy s3. I was hearing a lot of people hate on this phone from different phone reviewers, especially about the camera. I spent a good hour in the Verizon store comparing the two phones, and honestly they both seemed pretty cool. I spent the majority of the time with the camera because a lot of people were hating on that, but honestly it takes great pics. it will take an overexposed shot but you have to be trying to make it do so. and the front camera is the THE BOMB when it comes to selfies. you will never have to look for good lighting again when it comes to a selfie.
The deciding factors for me when it came down to choose was 1. The overall sexiness of the phone. yes samsung did step up their game from the s5, but they are still not in the same league as HTC as far as sexiness imo. Reason #2. Uh Oh protection. Seriously you cannot get better than that! But seriously!!!! A new phone no questions asked if you break your old one, wow!
I have had my phone for four days now and I am still loving it. Battery life from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm - heavy usage. SOOOO much faster than galaxy s3. And just an overall awesome phone, I would recommend to anyone! see less

Yes, I recommend this product.
I had the M8 previous to getting the M9 and I chose this over the S6 largely because of the fact that it features expandable memory. My M8 was a 32gb to start with and then I had a 32gb card in the phone also and both were full. Mostly because I travel a lot and often get stuck in airports, so I like having movies to watch without burning through my data plan by watching Netflix.

Mostly because I travel a lot and often get stuck in airports, so I like having movies to watch without burning through my data plan by watching Netflix.
I also chose this phone because it has a one time replacement from HTC if I crack the screen or water damage the phone in the first year, completely free of charge. Which if you are tough on your phone like me, basically pays for itself.
The phone is powerful as can be for multitasking and switches seamlessly between apps thanks to the Sense 7 UI and Android 5.0. Contrary to the reports of the phone overheating, the phone only really got very hot when I was transferring my stuff from my old phone. It does get warm, but no more so than my M8 did. The backlight is also very bright in the daylight and like having a flashlight shone into your eyes indoors at max setting. The speakers I don't think are as loud as the M8's but they still pack a punch. I haven't stress tested the battery yet but so far so good. It holds a charge roughly around what my M8 did, if even slightly longer. Lastly, the screen is still just as sharp and vivid as the M9 and I am glad it does not feature that Quad HD display many phone makers are opting for now. I used to sell TV's and one thing I often pointed out to people was the difference between a 720p TV and a 1080p TV around 32 inches. Only a handful could ever tell the difference so on a five inch screen, it really is a pointless feature. Honestly, on a five inch screen, your eyes cannot tell the difference between 1080 and Quad HD. All the Quad HD does is drain the battery faster.
The only problem I've had with the phone is the camera. I could not fathom how it was a 20 MP camera at first because the pictures were completely terrible. After a little digging on the internet, I found a solution though that has made it immensely better.
(1)Set the ISO rating on the camera to 400
(2)In the camera settings change it from Wide(16:9) to Regular(10:7).
I also changed my EV rating to -0.5, but that was a personal thing not something that improved the resolution of the photos. Also play around with the sharpness, as I feel that the camera over-sharpens the photos automatically and they look better with the sharpening rated a little lower than default. see less

Yes, I recommend this product.
I have had the Note 3 and LG G3. The HTC M9 blows them all away. I was originally hesitant to make the switch on account of camera issues, but I have found the camera to be more than sufficient for my needs. I use my phone for business and have been extremely happy with the reliability of the M9.

I compared the Galaxy S6 and this M9 though CNET and other reputable services. The deal breaker was no microSD port on the S6. I use a lot of apps, photos, etc so I not only need a lot of room, I need to be able to quickly pull photos off onto my laptop. Removable storage is a huge thing. The battery life is adequate but not great. A coworker has an S6 and at the end of the day we're within a point or two of remaining battery. I suppose that means not to overlook either phone based on battery life.
The processor is really, really fast. Virtually no hang time on any app.
The net is abuzz with info on the Galaxy security flaws. That makes me even more happy with the M9. see less

This is a great phone, HUGE storage capacity, especially since it will hold a memory card that isn't even available yet. As well there is a nice feature that tells you how long it will be until the phone is fully charged. The camera is awesome and the pictures are great. I was used to the HTC DNA, which took outstanding pictures, and the M9 surpasses that.
The only issues I would have are negligible and more of a personal irritation than a standard quirk on the phone. For example, you have to be on the main screen to lower the volume of the ringer, although there is an available shortcut that can be added to one touch mute everything. No matter what I do, I cannot get the phone to quit vibrating. It vibrates on a call, and on emails, and on texts, and when typing... There is no setting to turn this feature off, which I feel contributes to the battery running down at a faster rate. Otherwise I feel that the phone is a great piece of equipment.
