Backup Data - BlackBerry® Desktop Manager (Windows®)

BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.x / 5.x

  1. Ensure the device is connected to the computer via the supplied USB cable.
  2. Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    Note From the Windows desktop, navigate Start > Programs (All Programs) > BlackBerry > Desktop Manager.
    Note If not available, refer to Download / Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager for assistance.
  3. Click Backup and Restore.
  4. Click Back up.
  5. Click Save.
    Note The Backup file will be named with the current date and saved in My Documents.
    Note Backup is complete when the Transfer in progress window closes.

Backup Data (Advanced)

  1. Ensure the device is connected to the computer via the supplied USB cable.
  2. Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    Note From the Windows desktop, navigate Start > Programs (All Programs) > BlackBerry > Desktop Manager.
  3. Click Backup and Restore.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. From the Device databases section, select the database(s) then click the left arrows to transfer.
    Note To select multiple databases, press and hold down the CTRL key then click the appropriate databases.
    Note To select a range of databases, press and hold the Shift key then click the appropriate databases.
  6. Click File > Save As (located in the upper-left).
  7. Click Save.
    Note The Backup file will be named with the current date and saved in My Documents.
  8. Click Close.

BlackBerry Desktop Software v6.x

  1. Ensure the device is connected to the computer via the supplied USB cable.
  2. Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    Note From the Windows desktop, navigate Start > All Programs (Programs) > BlackBerry > BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    Note If not available, refer to Download / Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager for assistance.
  3. Click Back up now.

  4. Select / Enter the appropriate Back Up Options then click Back up:
    Note The file name depicted in the following images is only an example.
    • Backup type
      • Full (all device data and settings)
      • Quick (exclude email)
      • Custom (select data only)
        Note If applicable, select (check) the appropriate options.
        • Include:
          • Files saved on my built-in media storage
          • Data Type
    • File Options
      • File name
      • Save backup files to:
        Note If applicable, click Change folder to navigate to an alternate location.
      • Encrypt backup file
        Note If applicable, enter a password into the File and Confirm password fields.

  5. Click Close.
    Your backup is complete prompt with Close
