Hard Reset - Samsung Fascinate™ a Galaxy S™ phone

A hard reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync. Our Troubleshooting Assistant can help you with other device issues if you aren't currently using the tool.

CautionWarnings:

  • Performing a hard reset removes all data including the Google account, system data, app data, app settings, and downloaded apps. Only perform a hard reset if absolutely necessary.
  • Pictures, videos and music are also removed. It's recommended to backup this data.
Note Disable Automatic Restore prior to performing a hard (factory) reset when attempting to determine whether a third-party app is the cause of an operating system / app issue.

  1. From a home screen, select Applications.

  4. Select Factory data reset.

  5. Select Reset phone.
    Note If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.

  6. Select Erase everything.

  7. Refer to Initial Activation and Setup.

Alternate method

  1. Press and hold the Power button.
    Note If the device is non-responsive, remove then replace the battery. Refer to Battery Inserting/Removing for additional assistance.

  3. Press and hold the Volume Up/Down keys and the Power button simultaneously. When the Samsung logo appears, release only the Power button.

  4. From the Recovery screen, press the Volume down key to select wipe data/factory reset.

  5. Select Home.

  6. Select Volume Up to continue.
    Note Allow the factory reset process to complete (approximately 1 minute).

  7. Ensure reboot system now is selected.
