Tethered Modem Connection - DROID by MOTOROLA

Note The latest MR (Maintenance Release) for the Motorola Droid provides a native capability to support high speed internet to connect to a computer through a USB cable and access Mobile Broadband Connect service on the computer. The Droid By Motorola is seen as an NDIS (a Microsoft® Windows technology) based device.

Windows XP (32 Bit Only)
Windows Vista / Windows 7

 

 

Windows XP (32 Bit only)

  1. From the computer, launch an Internet browser then navigate to www.android.com/drivers/tetherxp.inf to download the configuration file.
    Note If the browser appends .html to the file name, edit the name to remove the .html extension.
    Note Note the location where the file was saved (e.g. desktop).
  2. Connect the device to the computer with the USB cable.
  3. From the device, select Menu.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Select Wireless & Networks.
  6. Select Tethering & Portable Hotspot.
  7. Ensure USB tethering is checked.
  8. When the Found New Hardware Wizard launches on the Windows desktop, click No, not at this time.
  9. Select Install from a list or specific location then click Next.
  10. Click Browse, select the downloaded configuration file then click Next.
    Note Windows XP uses the configuration file to configure itself to support USB tethering with the Droid By Motorola.
  11. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

  1. Connect the device to the computer with the USB cable.
  2. From the device, select Home.
  3. Select Menu.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Select Wireless & Networks.
  6. Select Tethering & Portable Hotspot.
  7. Ensure USB tethering is checked.
