SIM Card - Inserting/Removing - Apple® iPhone® 5

Instructions on Inserting/Removing your SIM can help with activation issues/errors, browser connection problems, and a blank/frozen screen. Our Troubleshooting Assistant can help you with other device issues if you aren't currently using the tool.

Note Caution:
  • Do not attempt to insert or remove the SIM card while the device is powered on. Doing so may harm the SIM card and/or the device.
  • This device uses a 4G nano SIM card. 4G SIM cards may not be used with devices that use incompatible SIM types. Similarly, altering (e.g. cutting) a 4G SIM or using a SIM adaptor to allow a SIM to be used with an incompatible device is not permitted. A compatible 4G SIM must always be used to ensure optimal device and network performance and to avoid service or feature impacts and disruption.

Insert the SIM Card

  1. Power the device off.
    Note Press and hold the Power button.
    Power on iPhone
  2. Slide the power switch right to power off the device.
    Note Allow several seconds for the device to power off.

  3. From the right edge of the device (display facing up), remove the SIM tray.
    Note Utilize an insertion/removal tool (e.g. a small thin paper clip) to unlock the tray by inserting it into the provided slot.

  4. With the gold contacts facing down and the notch located in the upper-right (landscape orientation), insert the SIM card into the tray as shown.
    Note Ensure that the card fits into place.

  5. Insert the SIM tray.
    Note Press in on the tray to lock it into place.

Remove the SIM Card

  1. Power the device off.
    Note Press and hold the Power button.

  2. Slide the power switch right to power off the device.
    Note Allow several seconds for the device to power off.

  3. From the right edge of the device (display facing up), remove the SIM tray.
