Perform a Factory Data Reset (Device Powered On) - DROID DNA by HTC

A factory data (hard) reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync. Our Troubleshooting Assistant can help you with other device issues if you aren't currently using the tool.

Warning Perform a factory data reset only if absolutely necessary as it removes all data including:

  • GoogleTM account
  • System and app data
  • App settings
  • Downloaded apps
  • Music, pictures and videos (It's recommended to backup this data).

Note An alternate reset method is available if the device is unresponsive or won't power on.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Apps icon Apps icon (located at the bottom).
  2. Tap Settings.
Note If unavailable, swipe down on the Apps menu, select the dropdown menu Applications dropdown menu icon (beneath date/time) then tap Alphabetical. If still unavailable, refer to Manage Icons.
  3. Tap Backup & reset.
Note To determine if an issue is caused by a third-party app, uncheck Automatic Restore.
  4. Tap Reset phone.
Note If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or unlock pattern.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Tap OK.
Note Allow up to 10 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
Note If necessary, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.
