Enable/Disable Parental Controls

  1. From the home screen, select Settings.
    Note If not available, swipe the screen down (where the time is located).
  2. Select Security and Privacy.
  3. Select Parental Controls.
    Note If presented, enter the 'Parental Controls' password then select OK.
  4. Select the 'Parental Controls' On/Off switch.
    Note If enabling, enter a password into the 'Password' and 'Confirm password' fields then select OK.
    • On (Enabled)
    • Off (Disabled)

Phone and Text Message Restrictions

Note Note:
  • Parental Controls must be enabled to configure these settings.
  • Enabling these restrictions allows only people in the Contacts app to call or text your child.

 

  1. From the home screen, select Settings.
    Note If not available, swipe down from the top of the display (where the time is located).
  2. Select Security and Privacy.
  3. Select Parental Controls.
  4. Enter the 'Parental Controls' password then select OK.
  5. From the 'Phone and Text Message Restrictions' section, select (check) any of the following:
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Phone calls from contacts only
    • Text messages from contacts only

App Usage

Note Note:

  • Parental Controls must be enabled to configure these settings.
  • Turning a feature or app off disables it on the device (the app icon no longer appears on the home screen).

 

  1. From the home screen, select Settings.
    Note If not available, swipe down from the top of the display (where the time is located).
  2. Select Security and Privacy.
  3. Select Parental Controls.
  4. Enter the 'Parental Controls' password then select OK.
  5. From the 'App Usage' section, select the On/Off switch for any of the following to enable/disable:
    Note Disabled when the On/Off switch is set to Off Off switch icon.
    • Camera and Video Features
    • Browser
      Note If disabled, all shortcuts to websites are hidden. Additionally, the 'Twitter' and 'Upload to YouTube' apps are disabled.
    • BBM
    • Twitter
      Note The browser must be turned off to prevent access to Twitter through the Internet.
    • Facebook
      Note The browser must be turned off to prevent access to Facebook through the Internet.
    • Upload to YouTube
    • Email Account Setup
    • Location Information
    • Purchase content
    • Install Application
    • Remove App

BlackBerry World Usage

Note Note:

  1. From the home screen, select Settings.
    Note If not available, swipe down from the top of the display (where the time is located).
  2. Select Security and Privacy.
  3. Select Parental Controls.
  4. Enter the 'Parental Controls' password then select OK.
  5. From the 'BlackBerry World Usage' section, select the 'BlackBerry World' On/Off switch to enable/disable:
    Note Disabled when the On/Off switch is set to Off Off switch icon.
  6. If enabled, select the 'content Restrictions' Edit button (located on the right).
  7. Select the type of content that you would like to appear in BlackBerry World then select Close (located in the upper-left):
    Note Selected when a the blue indicator is present.
    • Apps and Games
      • Adult - Show all items
      • Mature - Show general, teen, and mature items
      • Teen - Show general and teen items
      • General - Show items suitable for all ages
    • Movies
      • NR - Not officially rated and classified
      • NC-17 - No One 17 and Under Admitted
      • R - Under 17 requires an accompanying parent
      • PG-13 - Some material may be inappropriate for children
      • PG - Some material may not be suitable for children
      • G - All ages admitted
    • Music
      • Show Explicit content
      • Restrict Explicit content
    • TV
      • NR - Not officially rated and classified.
      • TV-MA - Suitable for viewers over the age of 17.
      • TV-14 - May not be suitable for children under 14.
      • TVPG - Parental guidance suggested.
      • TV-G - Suitable for all audiences.
      • TV-Y7 - Suitable for children over seven years old.
      • TV-Y - Suitable for all children.
