Optimize Data Usage - Samsung Galaxy S® 4

Note Data usage information provided by the device may differ from actual usage. For data usage information provided by Verizon Wireless, dial #DATA (#3282) from the device or refer to the My Verizon website.

  1. From a Home screen, tap Apps (located in the lower right).
    Note These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. From the Apps tab, tap Settings.
  3. From the Connections tab, tap Data usage.

Set Mobile Data Warning
Set Mobile Data Limit
View Data Usage by App
Restrict Data Usage by App

 

Change Data Usage Cycle

  1. From the Data usage cycle field, tap the dropdown menu.
  2. Tap Change cycle.
  3. Select the appropriate date then tap Set.
    Note Refer to the My Verizon website for billing cycle date.

Set Mobile Data Warning

Note A notification message appears upon reaching the specified data usage level indicated by the orange warning line.

  1. Touch and hold the red dot located to the right of the warning line.
  2. Drag the warning line to the desired level (e.g. 1.8GB) then release.
  3. Tap Alert me about data usage.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  4. If presented with the 'Data usage alert' prompt, review the message then tap OK.

Set Mobile Data Limit

Caution Mobile data (cellular data) is disabled upon reaching the specified data usage level indicated by the red limit line. To continue to utilize apps dependant upon a data connection (e.g. Browser, Email, Google Play Store, etc.), a Wi-Fi connection can be used or Mobile data must be manually re-enabled (overage charges may apply).

  1. Tap Mobile data.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  2. Tap Limit Mobile data.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  3. If presented with the 'Limiting data usage' prompt, review the message then tap OK.
  4. Touch and hold the red dot located to the right of the limit line.
  5. Drag the limit line to the desired level (e.g. 2.0GB) then release.

View Data Usage by App

  1. Select an app (located below the usage graph).
  2. View the usage information.

Restrict Data Usage by App

Note Some apps depend upon background data (transferring data when not directly in use). Restricting background data may cause those apps to stop functioning unless a Wi-Fi connection is available.

  1. Select an app (located below the usage graph).
  2. Tap Restrict background data.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
  3. If presented with the 'Restrict background data' prompt, review the message then tap OK.
