Optimize Data Usage - Samsung Galaxy S® 4

Note Data usage information provided by the device may differ from actual usage. For data usage information provided by Verizon Wireless, dial #DATA (#3282) from the device or refer to the My Verizon website.

  1. From a home screen, select Apps (located in the lower-right).

Change Data Usage Cycle

  1. From the Data usage cycle field, select the drop down menu.

  2. Select Change cycle.

  3. Select the appropriate date then select Set.
    Note Refer to the My Verizon website for billing cycle date.
    Select date then Set

Set Mobile Data Warning

Note A notification message appears upon reaching the specified data usage level indicated by the orange warning line.

  1. Select and hold the red dot located to the right of the warning line.

  2. Drag the warning line to the desired level (e.g. 1.8GB) then release.

  3. Select Alert me about data usage.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.

  4. If presented with the 'Data usage alert' prompt, review the message then select OK.
    Ok to confirm

Set Mobile Data Limit

Caution Mobile data (cellular data) is disabled upon reaching the specified data usage level indicated by the red limit line. To continue to utilize apps dependant upon a data connection (e.g. Browser, Email, Google Play Store, etc.), a Wi-Fi connection can be used or Mobile data must be manually re-enabled (overage charges may apply).

  1. Select Mobile data.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.

  3. If presented with the 'Limiting data usage' prompt, review the message then select OK.
    OK to confirm
  4. Select and hold the red dot located to the right of the limit line.

  5. Drag the limit line to the desired level (e.g. 2.0GB) then release.

  1. Select an app (located below the usage graph).

Restrict Data Usage by App

Note Some apps depend upon background data (transferring data when not directly in use). Restricting background data may cause those apps to stop functioning unless a Wi-Fi connection is available.

  1. Select an app (located below the usage graph).

  2. Select Restrict background data.
    Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    Select Restrict background data
  3. If presented with the 'Restrict background data' prompt, review the message then select OK.
    OK to confirm
