Hard Reset - Nokia Lumia 822

A hard reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync. Our Troubleshooting Assistant can help you with other device issues if you aren't currently using the tool.


Caution Warnings:

  • Performing a hard reset removes all data including the Windows Live account, system data, app data, app settings, and downloaded apps. Only perform a hard reset if absolutely necessary.
  • Pictures, videos, music, phone settings and text messages are also removed. It's recommended to backup this data.

  1. From the Start screen, scroll down and select the right arrow.

  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select about.
  4. Select reset your phone.
  5. Select yes.
  6. Select yes.
    Note Allow up to 1 minute for the process to complete.
    Note To setup the device after the reset has completed, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.




Alternate Method

  1. Ensure that the device is powered off.
    Note If necessary, press and hold the power button until the 'slide down to power off' message appears then release. With the message on screen, swipe down then allow several seconds for the device to power off.

  2. Press and hold the volume down button until instructed to release in step 4.

  3. Press and hold the power button until the device vibrates (approximately 2 seconds) then release.
    Note Alternatively, connect the device to an approved USB charger while continuing to hold the volume down button.
  4. When the restore screen appears (exclamation mark), release the volume down button.
  5. From the restore screen, press then release the following buttons to initiate the reset process:
    1. volume up
    2. volume down
    3. power
    4. volume down
    Note Allow several minutes for the process to complete (rotating gears appear on the display to indicate that the reset is in process).
    Note To setup the device after the reset has completed, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.
