  1. What is a 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®?

    The 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® lets you create a personal, portable Wi-Fi® hotspot capable of sharing Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband 3G high-speed Internet connectivity with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as notebooks, netbooks, cameras, gaming devices or portable media/MP3 players.

    • As a standalone device, you can share your Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband connection with up to five Wi-Fi capable devices.
    • Connected via a USB Modem, you can connect a single PC or notebook.

  2. How is the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® different from other Mobile Broadband USB modems, PC Cards, and ExpressCards?

    There are significant differences between the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® and other Mobile Broadband devices, primarily because the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® can connect multiple devices using a Wi-Fi connection to Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband service. The other modems require a physical connection, and may only be used with one notebook at a time. Further, the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® connects not only notebook computers, but can also connect to various Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as cameras, gaming devices, digital photo frames and more.

  3. How is the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® different from a home router?

    The 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® can operate as a USB Modem (with a USB Cable) or in Wi-Fi Mode, eliminating the need for a wired connection or power outlet connection. Its lightweight, slim and compact features make this the ultimate mobile hotspot.

  4. How can I connect my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® to my Internet ready device?

    There are two different operating modes for the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®.

    • USB Cable Mode – Use a microUSB cable to connect your notebook or other computing device with a Type A USB port to the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® for Mobile Broadband access. The microUSB cable is required for VZAccess Manager installation, activation, and firmware/preferred roaming list updates and 2-Way TXT messaging with VZAccess Manager.
    • Wi-Fi Mode – Connect up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices without the need for a USB or other wired connection. Just power it on and you are connected.

    Note: USB Cable connection between the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® and computer disables Wi-Fi capability.  When plugged into a wall outlet or vehicle power charger, the device will automatically set to Wi-Fi mode.

  5. How can I check the monthly Mobile Broadband usage of my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®?

    When using the device as a USB modem, monthly Mobile Broadband data usage is presented through VZAccess Manager upon connecting. You may also view usage information by pressing the "Usage" button.  If you are using the device in Wi-Fi mode, you can log into My Verizon to monitor your usage.

  6. When do I need to use the USB Cable on my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®?

    The USB Cable is required when the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® is used as a USB Modem and for first time setup and activation with VZAccess Manager. The cable can be used to connect after activation if the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® is out of battery power and there is no access to a wall outlet.

  7. How do I connect to the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® with the USB Cable?

    When the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® is connected to a computer using the microUSB cable, Wi-Fi is disabled, only allowing use with one device. Using the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® as a modem provides more security than sending data over a Wi-Fi connection. It’s important to note that when using the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® with the microUSB cable, take care to fully extend the cable so that it’s a minimum of eight inches from the computer.

    Connect the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® using the included USB cable. The power LED turns on. The 3G Status LED on the device lights up and is solid. Launch VZAccess Manager to connect to Mobile Broadband

  8. How do I connect to the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® via Wi-Fi?

    To connect the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® via Wi-Fi, press the "Power" button. Once the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® has been activated, it automatically connects to the Internet via Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband service. The Service Status Indicator lights solid green. When transmitting data, the Service Status Indicator will blink green intermittently at a rate proportional to the data speed.

    Use your normal Wi-Fi application on your computer or Wi-Fi enabled device to establish a connection to the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®. For example, look for the network SSID "Verizon MiFi 2200." Click "Connect" and enter the default password printed on the back of the MiFi 2200 and on the Important MiFi 2200 Connect Information card.

    For further information on how to use your Wi-Fi enabled device’s Wi-Fi connection manager, refer to the device’s user manual or contact the manufacturer.

  9. How can I modify power settings, security controls, system information, network preferences, and Trusted Client management preferences on my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®?

    To connect to the settings page, first establish a Wi-Fi connection to the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®. Then, open your Web Browser. In the “Address” or “Location” bar, enter the address of the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® (http://192.168.1.1). The Welcome Page appears. You cannot access the settings page using USB Mode; only through a Wi-Fi connection.

    The “Login” field is on the top right of the screen. Login requires only a password – there is no login name. Use the case-sensitive default password: “admin”.

  10. What kind of security is available for my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / Verizon Jetpack™?

    The 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / Verizon Jetpack™ supports all the latest WEP/WPA/WPA-2 security and NAT firewall protocols. It is recommended that security is set up in order to prevent unauthorized use. To configure your security settings on the Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, access the device administrator tools, enter http://192.168.1.1 into your Wi-Fi enabled device’s web browser when connected to the Intelligent Mobile Hotspot in Wi-Fi mode.

  11. Is my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / Verizon Jetpack™ password protected when in Wi-Fi mode?

    Yes. By default, your device has a password that must be entered to connect to it via Wi-Fi. Your Wi-Fi enabled device will prompt you to enter the password when you attempt to connect to the Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. The password can be found on the Important MiFi 2200 Connect Information card included in the box. The password is also printed on a label on the bottom of the Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.

  12. What if I changed my 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® password from the default one and forgot it?

    The Intelligent Mobile Hotspot can be reset by performing the following instructions:

    1. Power on the 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® while not plugged into AC power or tethered to a notebook.
    2. Insert a paperclip into the small hole on the bottom of 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® and hold it for at least 5 seconds.
    3. LEDs will turn off and on twice to indicate reset is successful. The device will be reset to the default password printed on the Important MiFi 2200 Connect Information card included in the box and label on the bottom of the device.

  13. My 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® has two lights. What do they mean?

    There are two light indicators on your 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi®: a Power LED and a Status LED. The lights display different colors and patterns depending on what is occurring. Refer to the grid below for details:

    The 3G Intelligent Mobile Hotspot / MiFi® is designed with a power button that lights up to indicate whether or not the device is powered on and what the charging status is.

  14. Can I use the Intelligent Mobile Hotspot MiFi2200 for memory storage?

    No. MiFi2200 does not support removable memory storage.
