Certified Like-New Replacement Activation and Shipping Guide: iPhone® 5, 4S or 4

This guide contains general instructions on activating a Certified Like-New Replacement iPhone 5, 4S or 4 and shipping your defective phone back to us.

Note: Once you return your phone, it cannot be sent back to you.

Step 1: Back up contacts and content from original iPhone 5, 4S or 4.

If your original iPhone cannot be powered on, go to Step 3.

Sync your original iPhone with iTunes®, or create a backup with iCloud®.

Step 2: Transfer SIM card.

If you do not have an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S, skip to step 3. For more information on accessing your SIM card, visit the Apple iPhone Support page.

Perform the following on your old iPhone:

  1. With the power off, insert a small, opened-up paper clip into the hole at the edge of the SIM card tray on the right side of the phone.

  2. Push the paper clip firmly down into the hole until the SIM card tray lifts out of the phone.

  3. Remove the paper clip once the top of the SIM tray has lifted out, and remove the whole tray by hand.

  4. Remove the SIM card from the SIM tray without touching the gold connectors. Reinsert the SIM tray into device.

Perform the following on your replacement iPhone:

  1. With the power off, insert a small, opened-up paper clip into the hole at the edge of the SIM card tray on the right side of the phone.

  2. Push the paper clip firmly down into the hole until the SIM card tray lifts out of the phone.

  3. Remove the paper clip once the top of the SIM tray has lifted out, and remove the whole tray by hand.

  4. Remove the SIM card from the SIM tray without touching the gold connectors. Reinsert the SIM tray into device.

Step 3: Activate your replacement iPhone

Please ensure that you power off your old device prior to activating your replacement device, or you may have problems activating or establishing data connectivity on your new device.

When you reach the Wi-Fi Networks screen, select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and enter the network password, if necessary. If you are unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network, use one of the options below to activate your phone.

Activate using a cellular connection

You may use this option if Use Cellular Connection appears.

Note: It may take several seconds for this option to appear.

  1. Tap Use Cellular Connection to activate.

  2. Follow instructions on your iPhone screen.

Activate using iTunes

  1. Tap Connect to iTunes.

    Note: This option only appears if Wi-Fi and Cellular Connection are not available

  2. Connect your iPhone to a computer using a USB cable.

  3. Follow instructions on your computer screen.

Step 4: Complete on screen Setup Assistant.

Complete your on screen Setup Assistant to set up your iPhone, restore your data from iCloud or iTunes and set up your Apple ID, if applicable.

Step 5: Ship original iPhone.

You must return your original iPhone within five days. If you do not return your original iPhone or if you return one that has been subjected to neglect, misuse, liquid damage or unreasonable wear and tear, you will be charged up to the full retail price of your replacement iPhone, which may exceed $500.

  1. Remove all accessories from your defective phone, including battery (if removable), SD card, SIM card, USB cables, etc.

  2. Insert your defective phone under the film of the cardboard insert found in the shipping box to ensure safe return.

  3. Place the insert, with the defective phone under film, back inside the shipping box.

  4. Seal the shipping box and attach the return label.

  5. Drop off the box at the nearest location of the carrier identified on the return shipping label.
