Activating Your 3G Mobile Hotspot & USB Modem

Follow these instructions to activate your new or Certified Pre-Owned 3G Mobile Hotspot or USB modem.

Do not insert your new USB modem, ExpressCard or PC Card into your computer or turn on your Mobile Hotspot device until step 2.

  1. Activate service.

    Call (877) 807-4646 to activate service. Have your Customer Receipt with you because you may be asked to confirm information from it, including the mobile number assigned to your device.

    If you are an existing Verizon Wireless customer and have a My Verizon account, you may also activate service online.

    MiFi® 2200 users: Once you have activated service, skip to step 3: “Activate your new device” below.

  2. Install the VZAccess® Manager software.

    The latest VZAccess Manager software must be installed on your computer prior to using your USB modem, ExpressCard or PC Card.

    We recommend that you check for updates periodically and upgrade to the latest version of VZAccess Manager when available.1 Using the latest version of VZAccess Manager ensures optimal performance of your device.

    Business and government customers, you may need to contact your IT administrator for assistance with installing the software.

    FiveSpot™

    1. Insert the battery into your new device and charge it. Do not turn on your device.

    2. Connect your device to a computer using the USB cable included in the packaging.

    3. Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds until the icons light up.

    4. Your computer will recognize your device as new hardware and prompt you to install VZAccess Manager on your desktop. If VZAccess Manager does not run automatically or prompt you to install, open VZAccess Manager manually on your computer:

          PC users
            1. Right-click Start menu.

            2. Select Explore (Windows Explorer), and click on the drive named VZAccess Manager.

            3. Click on Install VZAccess Manager.

          Mac users
            1. Click the VZAccess Manager CD icon to open.
            2. Follow the prompts to install VZAccess Manager.

USB modem

      • If a CD is not included, insert the device into your computer and follow the on-screen prompts.

      • If a CD is included, insert CD and follow on-screen prompts. If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, you may download VZAccess Manager by going to the VZAccess Manager website and following the prompts. Once installation is complete, insert your device into your computer.

  1. Activate your new device.

    MiFi 2200

        1. Insert the battery into your new device and charge it. Do not turn on your device.

        2. Connect your device to a computer using the USB cable included in the packaging. Your MiFi 2200 will power on automatically.

        3. Open the Wi-Fi® manager on your computer.

        4. Look for the network name (SSID) Verizon MiFi 2200 XXXX (the X’s represent the four unique digits associated with your MiFi 2200).

        5. Connect to your MiFi 2200. If prompted, enter the default password (security key) that can be found on the back of your MiFi 2200.

        6. Open an Internet browser window and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

        7. Follow the on-screen prompts to activate your device by selecting Activate or Update PRL.

    FiveSpot

        1. Double-click on the VZAccess Manager icon on your computer screen.

        2. Select Options, and then click Activation.

        3. Once activated, disconnect your device from your computer.

    USB Modem

        1. Double-click on the VZAccess Manager icon on your computer screen.

        2. Select Options, and then click Activation.

        3. Select the appropriate network and click Connect WWAN.

Data usage will be incurred when downloading upgrades of VZAccess Manager while connected to the Verizon Wireless network. Data usage will not be incurred when downloading upgrades over Wi-Fi.
