Activating Your 4G LTE USB Modem

Follow these instructions to activate your new or Certified Pre-Owned 4G LTE USB modem.

  • Do not attach your 4G LTE USB modem to your computer until instructed in step 4.

  • If you are using your existing Verizon Wireless 4G LTE SIM card, skip to step 2.

  • If you are a Business Customer and this is your first 4G LTE device, your 4G LTE SIM card is preinstalled on your new Smartphone, skip to step 3.

To activate your SIM card, dial (877) 807-4646 from any phone and follow the prompts to activate your 4G LTE service.

Have your Customer Receipt with you because you may be asked to confirm information from it, including the mobile number assigned to your 4G LTE SIM card.
    1. Insert your SIM card and battery into your USB modem.

      1. If you received a 4G LTE SIM card in your shipment, snap the SIM card out of its holder without touching the gold electrical contacts.


        If you are using your existing Verizon Wireless 4G LTE SIM card, remove the SIM card from your old device without touching the gold electrical contacts.

        Note: The actual insertion process varies by device, so refer to your user guide for instructions on how to insert the SIM card. You can find your user guide by going to the Support page specific to your device and clicking on User Guide.

      2. Write down the password located on the back of your new device or under the battery cover.

      3. Insert the battery and battery cover into your device.

      4. Charge your new device.

    2. Install the VZAccess® Manager software.

    3. The latest VZAccess Manager software must be installed on your computer prior to using your USB modem. Business and government customers, you may need to contact your IT administrator for assistance with installing the software.

    • If a CD is not included, insert the device into your computer and follow the on-screen prompts.

    • If a CD is included, insert CD and follow on-screen prompts. If your computer does not have a CD-ROM drive, you may download VZAccess Manager from the Consumer Downloads page at Once installation is complete, insert your device into your computer.

  1. Attach your USB modem to your computer and connect to the Internet.

    1. Attach your 4G LTE USB modem to your computer using the original extension cable to optimize the performance of your device. This cable increases the distance between your USB modem and computer, reducing possible interference from your computer.

    2. Double-click on the VZAccess Manager icon on your computer screen. Your service will be activated automatically.

    3. Select the appropriate network and click Connect WWAN.

Note: You will be prompted to check for VZAccess Manager software updates weekly. We recommend you check for updates periodically and upgrade to the latest version when available.1 Using the latest version of VZAccess Manager ensures optimal performance of your modem.

1 Data usage will be incurred when downloading upgrades of VZAccess Manager while connected to the Verizon Wireless network. Data usage will not be incurred when downloading upgrades over Wi-Fi®.
