Activating Your iPad® / iPad Mini without a Service Plan

Your new iPad comes with a pre-installed 4G LTE SIM card. In order to use Verizon Wireless service, you need to leave the pre-installed SIM card in your iPad.

Not a prepaid customer? If you have a standard monthly plan (receive a monthly bill), please refer to the Activating Your New iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G guide.

Step 1: Turn on your new iPad and follow the onscreen Setup Assistant.

 Setup Assistant will start automatically.

Step 2: Activate your new iPad.

We recommend that you set up wirelessly using a Wi-Fi connection. But if you are unable to access Wi-Fi, you have the option to set up using iTunes® or our National Enhanced Services Rate and Coverage Area.

Setting up iPad wirelessly over a Wi-Fi connection

  1. When you reach the Wi-Fi Networks screen in the Setup Assistant, select the Wi-Fi network you want to use.

  2. Enter the Wi-Fi network password, if required.

  3. Follow remaining instructions to complete setup. If you are unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network, use one of the options below to set up your new iPad.
