How to Update Your Device
There are two ways to update your device. Select one of the following options for instructions:
- Over the air (OTA) - Preferred method
OTA updates are initiated on your device and don't require a cable or computer. Before beginning an OTA update, please make sure your battery is fully charged and you're receiving a strong Verizon Wireless or Wi-Fi signal.
- Connect your device to a computer (PDF*) - Alternate method
If you don't have a strong connection to Wi-Fi or the Verizon Wireless network, you may not be able to perform an OTA update. Instead, you can connect your device to a computer with Internet access using your USB cable. Then download the Software Upgrade Assistant to your computer, which will check for updates and initiate the update process.
If you run into software issues while updating your device, our Software Repair Assistant (SRA) (PDF*) can attempt to repair them. The SRA may be helpful if your device:
- Isn't fully functional
- Can't power up to the Home screen
- Is running unapproved (rooted) or faulty software
If you run into issues using our SRA tool and are using a Windows computer, you can manually download SRA.
