Apple® iPhone® FAQs

[FAQs]

General Information
  1. If I buy iPhone through Verizon Wireless, can I keep the number I have with another wireless service provider?

Yes, this process is called porting. If your number is eligible, you can transfer your number from your current wireless or landline service provider to Verizon Wireless.

Refer to our Local Number Portability FAQs for more information on porting your phone number.

    Notes:

    • Canceling your service prior to porting will prevent you from keeping your number.

    • You may be responsible to your old service provider for any contractual requirements and applicable charges, including an early termination fee, on your old account.

  2. Do I need to sign up for a 2-year agreement when purchasing iPhone?

When purchasing any iPhone at the 2-year promotional price, a new agreement is required.

However, you also have the option to purchase any iPhone at the retail price or buy a Prepaid iPhone. Neither of these options require you to sign a long-term agreement.

Note: Activation on a month-to-month agreement is required when purchasing iPhone at full retail price.

  3. Can I switch to a new version of iPhone even if I'm not eligible for an upgrade?

If you are not upgrade eligible you can purchase a new device at the retail price.

Note: You may be able to get trade-in value for your used device. Go to the Device Recycling Program website to find out if your used device has value. If so, you can send the device in to receive a Verizon Wireless Gift Card. If you currently have an active device payment agreement, please refer to our Device Payment FAQs for information on upgrade options.

  4. Are there minimum service and data requirements when purchasing iPhone?

Yes, to purchase iPhone, you'll need to have a data package or data allowance.

The MORE Everything PlanSM offers Unlimited Talk, Unlimited Text and sharable data for up to 10 devices on your account. There are a variety of data allowances you can choose from to meet your specific needs. You'll also get added benefits like unlimited international messaging.

    Notes:

    • If you're an existing customer with a Nationwide Plan and data package, you can remain on your current plan.

    • If you don't have a data package, you may be able to add one on the Change Your Plan page in My Verizon, or you can switch to The MORE Everything Plan.

    • If you have an Unlimited Data package and want to purchase iPhone at a discounted price, you'll need to switch to a different data package for your current plan or switch to The MORE Everything Plan. If having an Unlimited Data package is important to you, you have the option to keep it and pay the retail price for a new phone.

  5. I currently have iPhone with AT&T or another carrier. Can I keep my current iPhone when I switch to Verizon?

No, you'll need an iPhone that is built to work on the Verizon Wireless network.

You may be able to get trade-in value for your used device. From the Device Recycling Program website, you can find out if your used device has value. If so, send the device in to receive a Verizon Wireless Gift Card.

  6. Can I go to an Apple Store® to purchase and activate a new iPhone?

Yes, you can visit an Apple Retail Store to purchase and activate a new iPhone. However, prior to visiting, please make sure to check your upgrade eligibility if you're an existing Verizon Wireless customer.

  7. Where's the closest store where I can purchase iPhone?

Refer to the store locators below to find the store nearest you:

You can also purchase iPhone online.

  8. Can I transfer my content (contacts, photos, videos, etc.) from my old phone when I activate iPhone?

Yes, you can use iCloud® or iTunes® to transfer content from your current iPhone to your new one. Refer to the guide below for instructions:

Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad® or iPod® touch to a new device

Note: If your old phone is a non-Verizon phone (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, etc), you'll need to install the Verizon Content Transfer app on your old phone.
