Apple® iPhone® FAQs

[FAQs]

General Information
  1. What are my options to purchase a new iPhone?

There are several options, depending on which plan you have. If you purchase a new iPhone with The Verizon Plan:

    • Device payments, which let you pay for your iPhone over 24 months. This option provides you the flexibility to get the most current devices by making monthly payments over time rather than paying for it all up front.

    • Retail price. This option requires you to activate your iPhone on a month-to-month agreement.

If you're an upgrade-eligible customer with The MORE Everything® Plan, in addition to buying a phone with a device payment program, you have the option to buy a new iPhone with a 2-year service agreement at a promotional price. You can check your upgrade eligibility in My Verizon. The MORE Everything Plan is no longer available for new activations.

  2. Can I switch to a new version of iPhone even if I'm not eligible for an upgrade?

Yes. If you're not upgrade eligible, you can purchase a new device at the retail price.

  3. If I buy iPhone through Verizon Wireless, can I keep the number I have with another wireless service provider?

Yes, this process is called porting. If your number is eligible, you can transfer your number from your current wireless or landline service provider to Verizon Wireless.

Refer to our Local Number Portability FAQs for more information on porting your phone number.

    Notes:

    • Canceling your service prior to porting will prevent you from keeping your number.

    • You may be responsible to your old service provider for any contractual requirements and applicable charges, including an early termination fee, on your old account.

  4. Are there minimum service and data requirements when purchasing iPhone?

Yes, to purchase iPhone, you'll need to have a data package or data allowance.

The Verizon Plan offers unlimited talk, unlimited text and sharable data for up to 10 devices on your account. You'll also get added benefits like unlimited international messaging from the US.

    Notes:

    • If you're an existing customer with The MORE Everything Plan or a Nationwide Plan and data package, you can remain on your current plan.

    • If you don't have a data package, you may be able to add one on the Change Your Plan page in My Verizon, or you can change to The Verizon Plan.

    • If you have an Unlimited Data package and want to purchase iPhone at a discounted price, you'll need to switch to a different data package for your current plan or change to The Verizon Plan. If having an Unlimited Data package is important to you, you do have the option to keep it and pay the retail price for a new phone.

  5. I currently have iPhone with AT&T or another carrier. Can I keep my current iPhone when I switch to Verizon?

Yes, if you have iPhone 6 or newer, you’ll be able to use it on the Verizon Wireless network.

iPhone 5s or earlier verisions can’t be used on the Verizon Wireless network because they’re not the same as the similar models built to work on the Verizon Wireless network.

You may be able to get trade-in value for your used device. From the Device Recycling Program website, you can find out if your used device has value. If so, send the device in to receive a Verizon Wireless Gift Card.

  6. Can I go to an Apple Store® to purchase and activate a new iPhone?

Yes, you can visit an Apple Retail Store to purchase and activate a new iPhone. However, prior to visiting, please make sure to check your upgrade eligibility if you're an existing Verizon Wireless customer.

  7. Can I purchase iPhone from Verizon Wireless online?

Yes, you can purchase iPhone online on our Apple Smartphones page.

  8. Can I transfer my content (contacts, photos, videos, etc.) from my old phone when I activate iPhone?

Yes, you can use iCloud® or iTunes® to transfer content from your current iPhone to your new one. Refer to the guide below for instructions:

Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad® or iPod® touch to a new device

Note: If your old phone is a non-Verizon phone (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, etc), you'll need to install the Verizon Content Transfer app on your old phone.

  9. Is iPhone HAC (hearing aid compatible) rated?

Please refer to the iPhone: Hearing Aid Compatibility page on Apple's Support website for iPhone HAC ratings.

  10. Does iPhone have accessibility features?

Yes, iPhone comes standard with screen reading technology and other accessibility features. Please refer to the Accessibility page on Apple's website for more details.
