Mobile Web FAQs

[FAQs]

General Information
  1. Am I always connected to the Internet with Mobile Web?
You are connected upon making a selection. After 30 seconds of inactivity, your mobile device "times out" (meaning you will no longer receive information and will no longer be billed for airtime). At that time, you can read the saved (cached) content without being billed for airtime minutes. You can reconnect to the Internet by making another selection (you can tell when the browser is re-initiating because you will see "sending/receiving" displayed on your device).

  2. Can I receive a call while in a Mobile Web browser session?
Yes. If you answer the call, your browsing session will be suspended. Once you end the call, you have the option to resume your browsing session from the point at which it was interrupted.

  3. What type of content is available on Mobile Web?
Some of the content categories available include sports, weather, business and top current events. In addition, content is available from many providers such as FOX Sports, Charles Schwab and ABCNews.

  4. Can I save bookmarks / favorites on my device with Mobile Web?
Yes, you can bookmark your favorite sites from your device with Mobile Web.

  5. How am I billed for Mobile Web?
Mobile Web is included with all basic phones. There is no monthly access charge.

Data charges are billed according to your plan’s data allowance or other applicable data feature. If your plan doesn’t include data, you’ll be charged the standard rate of $1.99/MB of data used.

  6. When I'm roaming throughout the country, can I still use Mobile Web?
Yes, as long as you're in our National Enhanced Services Rate and Coverage Area, you'll be able to use Mobile Web.

  7. If I change my phone number, can I still access Mobile Web?
Yes, as long as you continue to have a Mobile Web capable device and subscribe to Mobile Web.

  8. Does Mobile Web support SSL (https://) sites?
Yes, SSL mobile sites are accessible through Mobile Web and HTML secure sites are accessible through Optimized View for Mobile Web, with the exception of secure HTML banking sites.

  9. What is the Mobile Web headline window?
The headline window provides easy access to the top news headlines.

  10. How often will the headlines change in the Mobile Web headline window?
    These headlines will change daily.

  11. What are Mobile Web Premium Services?
Premium services are available for an additional monthly fee, above and beyond the $5 monthly access subscription fee.

  12. What types of Premium Services are available through Mobile Web?
Premium services currently available includes Sports Chat Zone, Friendz, Lavalife, MyLocalTV, Latino Chat Zone and lots more.

  13. How am I billed for Premium Services on Mobile Web?
The cost for these services will appear on your Verizon Wireless monthly statement.

  14. Can I create favorites / bookmarks in Mobile Web?
Yes, you can bookmark your favorite mobile websites from your device. Folders can be created for more organized storage.

  15. What major email providers are supported with Mobile Web?
MSN® Hotmail, Yahoo!® Mail and AOL® are currently offered.

  16. Can I open and / or forward attachments with Mobile Web?
Attachments can only be opened from a computer, but you can forward them from your mobile device.

  17. Is there a character limit in email over the web?
    No.

  18. Why do I get a different version of the web page in Search than I get when I access the same site on the Verizon Today Mobile Web portal?
With the implementation of Optimized View for Mobile Web in November 2008, Verizon Wireless subscribers now have the ability to access full HTML websites. The page designed by our Content Partners for the VZW Portal is designed to provide a better experience for you and while the content on both versions of these pages is often similar; presentation may differ slightly.

You can decide which version of a site you prefer to view and save it as a Favorite in order to be presented with the version of the site that you prefer.

Using Mobile Web
  1. How do I access News articles on Mobile Web?
We provide top headlines on the main homepage and under the “News” category. Content providers such as CNN and ABC News also provide headlines and articles.

  2. Can I read full news articles on Mobile Web?
    Yes.

  3. How do I access Premium Services on Mobile Web?
These services can be found under "Subscriptions" of the "Verizon Services" category on the portal homepage.

  4. How can I search for additional Internet sites via Mobile Web?
You can perform a Search by clicking Search on the portal (Option 0) or via your device browser right soft key. If you know the URL of a website, you can also enter it into the "Go to URL" feature.

  5. Where do I go to search for Internet sites on Mobile Web?

There are two ways to perform a search.

    • You can Search from the Mobile Web Home Page portal Option 0 or by using the browser right soft key on your device.

    • If you enter a keyword in the search box and then click Search, you'll be presented with a series of Search results. Mobile sites will be presented at the top and HTML sites will be presented under Top Web Results.
