Mobile Web FAQs

[FAQs]

Features
  1. Can I use my desktop to access Mobile Web?
Yes, you can access Mobile Web from your desktop at vzw.msn.com.

  2. How do I log in to Mobile Web for the 1st time?
From your desktop, go to http://vzw.msn.com and click "Join Now!" You will be sent to a web page at which you must obtain a .NET Passport account. When obtaining a Passport account, you will also receive your Hotmail email address. Registration can also be done from your PDA, however, not from your phone at this time.

  3. Do I need to login to use Mobile Web?
Yes, if you wish to customize your experience and/or sign up for alerts. To customize from the desktop, you will be required to log into Passport. From the phone, you will only need to login to access personalized information (ex: bookmarks, alerts and emails).

  4. Can I save Bookmarks with Mobile Web?
Yes, you can bookmark your favorite wireless websites, accessible from your phone or desktop. Folders can be created for more organized storage.

  5. How do I check my Mobile Web minutes of use?
Under "Customer Support" go to "My Bill" and follow the prompts. (Not available in all markets.)

General Information
  1. How am I billed for Mobile Web?
There is a monthly access fee of $5.00 if you are subscribed to a non-nationwide calling plan. On nationwide plans there is no monthly access fee. On non-nationwide plans Mobile Web deducts minutes from your voice rate-plan minutes (overage rates may apply) during use. On nationwide plans data transport charges of $1.99/MB are billed. Have the monthly subscription fee waived and applicable data/airtime charges when subscribing to the V Cast VPak.

  2. How can I view/update my Mobile Web personal settings?
To access your personalized Mobile Web information on your wireless device, you must log in with your Passport username by selecting "Email/Messaging" or "Search/Bookmarks." From the desktop, you may want to update the wireless device model that you selected during the signup process.

  3. If I change my phone number, can I access Mobile Web?
Yes, just update the phone number located on your desktop at vzw.msn.com (from the Registered home page, click "My Device," then click the "Edit" link under "My Device") so you can still receive your alerts.

  4. If I am roaming throughout the country, can I still use Mobile Web and receive alerts?
Yes, as long as you are in a Verizon Wireless digital area, you will be able to use Mobile Web and receive alerts while roaming.

  5. How do I troubleshoot Mobile Web error messages?
You can use soft key to view "Details" and report to Customer Service (*611) toll free (select the "Internet Solutions" option).

  6. Am I always connected to the Internet with Mobile Web?
You are connected upon making a selection. After 30 seconds of inactivity, your wireless device "times out" (meaning you will no longer receive information and will no longer be billed for airtime). At that time, you can read the saved (cached) content without being billed for airtime minutes. You can reconnect to the Internet by making another selection (you can tell when the browser is re-initiating because you will see "sending/receiving" displayed on your phone).

  7. Can I receive a call while in a Mobile Web browser session?
If you are in the process of sending/receiving data, inbound calls will go to voice mail. If you have timed out of your session, then you can receive your call.

My Alerts
  1. What are Mobile Web Alerts and is there a charge?
An Alert is an event notification you requested from the "Alerts" link from your personal page located on the desktop. Your Mobile Web access fee may include a bundle of Alerts, and for each alert over the bundled amount available to you (according to your price plan) there is a fee for overage at $0.15 per inbound message. You may also receive alerts from other providers that you requested, billed at the same rate of $0.15 per alert.

  2. When roaming, can I receive Mobile Web Alerts?
Yes, in most cities with Verizon Wireless digital service.

  3. How do I know if I've received a Mobile Web Alert?
A messaging icon displays when you receive an Alert. Go into your wireless device's message "inbox" to retrieve the Alert.

  4. How many Mobile Web Alerts can I receive?
You are not limited on the number you can receive, however your wireless device can only store a certain number of alerts. See your wireless device's user guide.

  5. What kind of Alerts can I receive from Mobile Web?
MSN® Hotmail, MSN Messenger, Calendar, Money, News/Headlines, Lottery, Sports, Weather, Horoscope, Music and Carpoint Traffic.

  6. Can I personalize/modify Mobile Web Alerts?
Yes, see "Tutorials" under the Mobile Web "Help" menu.

  7. If my wireless device is off will I still receive Alerts through Mobile Web?
Yes, an unread Alert will be saved for 5 days. The alerts will appear once you turn your wireless device back on.

My Email
  1. Is there a character limit in Email over the web?
    No.

  2. Can I open/forward attachments with Mobile Web?
Attachments can only be opened from the desktop, but you can forward them from your wireless device.

  3. Can I create folders in Mobile Web to save Email?
Yes, from the desktop, go to "Hotmail." Go to the "Inbox" tab, and select the drop down menu, "Put in Folder..."

  4. Can I save email addresses with Mobile Web?
Yes, they can be stored in "Address Book" under "Hotmail."

My Organizer
  1. What are Personal Information Tools in Mobile Web?
Personal Information Tools (PIM) tools are your calendar, address book and to-do list. Access to your MSN® calendar is available under the "Email/Messaging" link. Address Book is available within "Hotmail" (also found within "Email/Messaging").

  2. How many entries can I have in Address Book in Hotmail?
You can have unlimited names, addresses and phone numbers.

  3. Are my contacts stored on my wireless device or within Mobile Web?
Your contacts are stored within Mobile Web, which is not to be confused with your wireless device's internal memory for stored numbers.

  4. How can I access Personal Organization Tools within Mobile Web?
From the desktop, go to "Hotmail" or the "My MSN"® link located at the bottom of the desktop page. Your wireless device has access to the MSN calendar under "Email/Messaging" and the address book is located in "Hotmail." The PDA has access to the address book under Hotmail (which is not to be confused with the address book that resides on the device itself).

  5. Can I receive Calendar Alerts through Mobile Web?
Yes, you must set them up from the desktop in the "Alerts" tab.

  6. Can I sync Mobile Web with Outlook?
From the desktop portal, go to "MSN® Calendar." Under the "What's New on MSN Calendar," look for a link to import your calendar from Microsoft Outlook, etc.

  7. Can I call contacts directly from the contacts list in Mobile Web?
Yes, by pressing the "call" soft key within a specific address book entry.

Shopping
  1. Can I shop using my phone through Mobile Web?
Yes, at sites listed under "Shopping" located on the home page.

  2. Is Mobile Web shopping secure?
Yes, as long as a key or padlock icon is displayed.

  3. What can I purchase with my handset through Mobile Web?
Items such as DVDs, music and books, by checking the "Shopping" (found on the home page) category from the browser.

  4. Can I compare prices while shopping on Mobile Web?
Yes, at sites listed under the "Shopping" menu (found on the home page).

  5. Is there a shopping cart in Mobile Web?
    Not at this time.

  6. Will I receive purchase confirmation via email when shopping through Mobile Web?
Email confirmation depends on the individual site.

  7. Can I track my order when shopping through Mobile Web?
    Check with the individual site.

TXT Messaging
  1. What MSN services are now available with TXT Messaging?
Hotmail: Check your Inbox, compose / reply / forward / delete messages, receive and control Hotmail Alert Notifications.

Messenger: See which contacts are online, send and receive instant messages.

Previously MSN Hotmail and MSN Messenger were only available to Mobile Web users.

  2. What are the requirements to use the MSN services over TXT Messaging?
Verizon Wireless subscribers must be enabled with TXT Messaging service, have a 2-way TXT Messaging capable wireless phone and be registered at Verizon Wireless with MSN's website.

  3. Will my wireless phone require special software to use the MSN services over TXT Messaging?
No. The MSN services utilize existing 2-way TX Messaging functionality. No special software or upgrade is required.

  4. Do I have to be a Mobile Web user to register at http://vzw.msn.com?

No. However, Mobile Web subscribers are required to be enabled with TXT Messaging service and have access to a PC with an internet connection.

  5. How will I be charged for using the MSN services over TXT Messaging?
There is no extra fee to use any of the MSN services over TXT Messaging. Also, you will not incur any airtime fees. However, you will be billed per message according to your price plan while using these services (i.e., number of messages you send and receive, confirmation messages received and/or error messages received).

  6. Can I use the MSN services over TXT Messaging if I have prepaid phone service from Verizon Wireless?
Yes. However, the subscriber must be enabled with TXT Messaging service, have a 2-way TXT Messaging-capable phone and be registered at Verizon Wireless with MSN's website.

  7. Can I get calls while using any of the MSN services over TXT Messaging?
Yes. Because TXT Messaging uses a different technology than voice phone calls, you can receive calls while simultaneously sending/receiving text messages.

  8. Can I receive other messages while using any of the MSN services over TXT Messaging?
Yes. You can tell the difference between MSN service messages and other text messages by looking at the incoming message number. All MSN service messages will begin with 676.
