Nationwide Plans FAQs

General Information
  1. Are Nationwide Plans available for new activations?

    No. Most Nationwide plans are no longer available to new activations. Current customers with this plan can continue service. Our Plans page has the latest details and offerings available to new customers.

    The Nationwide for Business Plans are still available for business customers.



  2. I'm on a Nationwide Talk Plan with unlimited minutes. Are the minutes I use calling other countries also unlimited?

    Calls to other US landline and mobile numbers are unlimited, including Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Standard international long distance rates apply.



  3. How much do other Nationwide Plans cost?

    If you're currently on a Nationwide Plan, you can change your minutes, messages and data allowances. To view the allowance options and pricing available to you, go to the Change Your Plan page in My Verizon. Tap or click Select in the first section that has your plan name in the title.

    Note: You can also view a pricing comparison for switching to The MORE Everything PlanSM on the Change Your Plan page. Tap or click Select in the Switch to The MORE Everything Plan section to see MORE Everything pricing options and compare them to your current plan.



  4. How do I change the minutes, messaging or data allowances for my Nationwide Plan?

    If you currently have a Nationwide Plan, you can change your voice, messaging and data allowances on the Change Your Plan page in My Verizon. Click the Select button below the Change Your Nationwide Talk and Text option to get started. Here you can change your voice, messaging or data allowances. The price for each plan/package is displayed in My Verizon.

    Note: Changing your plan doesn't change your contract end date.



  5. I have a Nationwide plan. How am I billed for data?

    You're billed according to the data selection you've made. You can add a data package to your plan with a specific data allowance, or you can pay for each megabyte (MB) used according to your plan.

    To view your current data plan, go to the My Plan section of the My Verizon Home page. You can click on the plan name link to view more details.

    To change your data package, go to the Change Your Plan page in My Verizon.

    Note: Data packages are required for smartphones on Nationwide plans.



  6. What are the overage charges for Nationwide plans if I go over my minutes?

    The overage charges for Nationwide plans vary by the type of Nationwide plan you have and your allowance. See the charts below for more details.

    The overage charges for Nationwide plans vary by the type of Nationwide plan you have and your allowance. See the charts below for more details.

    Note: If you exceed your data allowance, your overage charges will be rounded up to the next GB. For example, if you go over your data allowance by 2.5 GB, you'll be billed for 3 GB of overage.



  8. What are the overage charges for Nationwide plans if I go over my messaging allowance?

    If you pay $10/month for 1000 messages, you'll be charged 10 cents/message sent or received after 1000 messages are sent or received.

    If you don't have a messaging allowance but pay per message, the rate is 20 cents/text message sent or received and 25 cents/multimedia message sent or received.



  9. Is there a way I can check to see how many megabytes an app is before I download it to my phone?

    Yes, if you're in the Media Store catalog on your basic phone:

    1. Highlight the game or app you want to download and press OK.
    2. Scroll down to INFO and press OK.
    3. At the bottom of the description, the size of the app is listed.


    Remember, 1024KB = 1MB



  10. I have a Nationwide plan. Am I required to have a data package?

    If you purchase a smartphone with a new two-year agreement, a data package (minimum $30/month) is required for the two-year term, even if you change devices on the line.



Nationwide Talk & Text Plans
  1. What are the Nationwide Talk & Text Plans?

    Nationwide Talk & Text Plans include unlimited messaging to anyone on any network in the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, in addition to all of the benefits of Nationwide Talk Plans. Nationwide Talk & Text Plans are no longer available to new customers. If you're a current customer with a Nationwide Talk & Text Plan, you can continue your service with that plan. For information about plans that are available for new customers, refer to our Plans page.



  2. Is the unlimited messaging on the Nationwide Talk & Text Plans only messaging to Verizon Wireless customers?

    No, unlimited messaging is to anyone on any network in the United States and participating networks in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.



  3. What types of messages are included in the Nationwide Talk & Text Plans?

    Text, multimedia and instant messages are included. Premium messages aren't included and are charged at their disclosed rates.



  4. Do all lines on the Nationwide Talk & Text Family SharePlans get unlimited messaging?

    Yes, all lines on the Talk & Text Family SharePlan get unlimited messaging.



  5. Are premium messages included in the Nationwide Unlimited Talk & Text Plan?

    No, premium messages will be charged at their disclosed rates.



Nationwide Family SharePlan®
  1. What is a Family SharePlan?

    A Family SharePlan allows up to 5 lines to share minutes and messaging allowances. This plan is not available for new customers. If you're an existing customer with this plan you can continue your service with this plan. For information about plans that are available for new customers, refer to our Plans page.



  2. Can I share my Unlimited Anytime Minutes on my Nationwide Plan with other lines on my Family SharePlan?

    To add another device and line to your Family SharePlan:

    1. Go to the My Devices page in My Verizon.

    2. Click Add a Device or ADD A LINE at the top of the page, and follow the prompts to purchase a device and add it to your account.

      Note: If you want to use a device you already own instead of purchasing a new device for the new line of service, go to the Activate or Switch Device page in My Verizon. Select the option to Create a New Line and follow the onscreen prompts.

    3. When prompted, specify that you want to add the new device to your existing Family SharePlan.


    You've successfully added a new device and line of service to your Family SharePlan.



  3. How do I add another device and line of service to a Family SharePlan?

    To add another device and line to your Family SharePlan:

    1. Go to the My Devices page in My Verizon.

    2. Click Add a Device or ADD A LINE at the top of the page, and follow the prompts to purchase a device and add it to your account.

      Note: If you want to use a device you already own instead of purchasing a new device for the new line of service, go to the Activate or Switch Device page in My Verizon. Select the option to Create a New Line and follow the onscreen prompts.

    3. When prompted, specify that you want to add the new device to your existing Family SharePlan.


    You've successfully added a new device and line of service to your Family SharePlan.



  4. If I add a line to my Family SharePlan from another Verizon Wireless account, will the upgrade eligibility date for that line be reset?

    No, if you add a current Verizon Wireless line as an additional line under your current Family SharePlan account, the upgrade eligibility date for that line will remain the same.



  5. I'm an Account Owner on a Family SharePlan and need to assign this role to a different wireless number on my account. How do I do this?

    You won't be able to change the Account Owner through My Verizon. To do this, you'll need to call Customer Service at (800) 922-0204.

    Alternatively, you can assign an Account Manager through My Verizon, which can do almost everything the Account Owner can. To learn more about this, visit our Assign Account Manager FAQs.



  6. Can I switch devices with a different wireless number on my Family SharePlan account but keep the same number?

    Yes, you can. To do this online, refer to our instructions on the Activate / Switch Device FAQs. You can also contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 to have this done.



  7. If I'm on a Family SharePlan will I be penalized for going back to a single-line plan?

    No, you won't be penalized for going back to a single-line plan. However, please note the following:

    • If there are other lines on your account, you must also assign them to a single-line plan.
    • If any lines on your account are under contract and you cancel them, an early termination fee will apply.


  8. Can I upgrade my plan temporarily and then switch back to my current Family SharePlan?

    Yes, you can change the minutes, messaging and data allowances for your current Family SharePlan. However you won't be able to switch to an entirely different plan (e.g., The MORE Everything Plan) and then switch back to any Nationwide plan (e.g., Family SharePlan) because Nationwide plans have been discontinued. You can change your minutes, messaging and data allowances a maximum of 2 times per month.



  9. How do I cancel one of the lines on my Family SharePlan?

    To cancel a line, you'll need to contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204.

    Note: When canceling a line that's still under contract, an early termination fee will apply.



Nationwide 65 Plus Plans (no longer available for new activations)
  1. Can I get the Nationwide 65 Plus Single or 2-line plans?

    This plan is no longer available for new activations. Current customers can continue service with this plan. Our Plans page has the latest details and offerings available to new customers.



  2. How much does the Nationwide 65 Plus Plan cost?

    Visit our Nationwide 65 Plus Plans information page for details on pricing, messaging packages, data options and overage charges.



  3. Am I required to sign a long-term contract to subscribe to the Nationwide 65 Plus Plan?

    No, you're not required to sign a long-term contract for this plan if you activate a phone you already have that's compatible with our network or you buy a phone from us at its retail cost. However, if you purchase a phone at a discount from us, you'll be required to sign a 2-year contract.



  4. Are there any special age restrictions to the Nationwide 65 Plus Plan?

    Yes, the Account Owner must be 65 or older to qualify for this plan.



  5. Why is there an age restriction for the Nationwide 65 Plus Plan?

    We designed a special calling plan to meet the needs of a select group of wireless customers who have a reduced need for Anytime minutes but still want to take advantage of our network. We reduced the anytime and weekend minutes based on customers 65 and over requests for a lower priced plan while still maintaining unlimited Mobile to Mobile calling.



  6. Is unlimited texting included in the Nationwide 65 Plus Plan?

    No, text messages will be charged at their disclosed rates. For information about text messaging packages that can be added to this plan, visit our Nationwide 65 Plus Plans pricing page.



  7. How much am I charged if I go over my minute allowance on the Nationwide 65 Plus Plan?

    Visit a Verizon Wireless store or call Customer Service at (800) 922-0204. You'll need to provide proof of your age at the time you sign up.

  1. What is Friends & Family?

    With Friends & Family you can call any number, on any network in the US, any time -- and never use your plan minutes!

    Note: Friends & Family is only available if you're a current customer on a qualifying Nationwide Plan. However, The MORE Everything Plan offers unlimited calling, messaging and shared data to suit your needs.



  2. What plans are eligible for Friends & Family?

    Friends & Family is available on Nationwide Single Line plans with at least 900 Anytime minutes, as well as Nationwide Family SharePlans with 1400 Anytime minutes or more. To check if you're on a qualifying plan, visit the My Plan page in My Verizon. In the Voice section, you'll see the details of your current plan.

    Note: Nationwide Plans are no longer available for new customers. Only current customers on Nationwide Plans are eligible to switch to a plan with Friends & Family.



  3. How much does Friends & Family cost?

    Friends & Family is a feature available on qualifying Nationwide plans at no additional monthly cost.



  4. Do I need to change my plan to get Friends & Family?

    To be eligible for Friends & Family, you must currently have a Nationwide plan, and you may need to switch to one of the following eligible Nationwide plans.

    To check if you're on a qualifying plan, go to the My Plans & Services page in My Verizon. If you're on a Nationwide plan that isn't eligible for Friends & Family, you can change to an eligible Nationwide plan on the Change Minutes, Text or Data page in My Verizon.

    If you're not on a Nationwide plan, you can switch to The MORE Everything PlanSM, which offers unlimited calling, messaging and shared data.



  5. How do I add numbers to my Friends & Family list?

    To add numbers to your Friends & Family list:

    1. Go to the Friends & Family page in My Verizon.

      Note: If you haven't already activated the Friends & Family service, you can do that here by clicking Activate my Friends & Family. You must be either an Account Owner or Account Manager to activate the Friends & Family service.

    2. Add and remove numbers from the Friends & Family list.

      Note: Account Members may view the list, but they may not edit the list.


  6. How many numbers can I add to my Friends & Family list?

    Customers on Nationwide plans with 900 Anytime minutes or more can choose up to 5 Friends & Family numbers. Customers on Nationwide Family SharePlans with 1400 Anytime minutes or more can choose up to 10 Friends & Family numbers for the entire account. Each line doesn't get its own separate list of Friends & Family numbers.



  7. Can I add numbers that aren't Verizon Wireless numbers to my Friends & Family list?

    Yes, with Friends & Family you can choose anyone, on any network in the US, to call without ever using your plan minutes. You can also change who is on your Friends & Family list at anytime by going to the Manage My Friends & Family page in My Verizon.



  8. When do changes to Friends & Family become effective?

    Changes to your Friends & Family numbers become effective the following day. Calls to and from the numbers you remove will continue to be unlimited during the day the change was made. Calls to and from the numbers you add will not be unlimited until the following day.



  9. Will I be notified when there are changes to Friends & Family?

    Yes, the Account Owner will receive a text message when a change that affects your Friends & Family eligibility is made.



  10. What types of numbers can I add to Friends & Family?

    Your Friends & Family list can contain any valid US number as well as any 800-type number, including 888, 866 and 877 (excluding 800-555-1212). Your Friends & Family list can't include directory assistance, 900-type numbers, your own mobile number or voice mail access number, or numbers from Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.



  11. I have an America's Choice plan. Is Friends & Family available on my plan?

    No, Friends & Family is available on Nationwide Single Line plans with 900 Anytime minutes or more, or Nationwide Family SharePlans with 1400 Anytime minutes or more. Nationwide Plans are no longer available, so you can't switch to one if you don't already subscribe to it. However, The MORE Everything Plan offers unlimited calling, messaging and shared data to better suit your needs.



  12. I'm on a Nationwide plan. Am I eligible for Friends & Family?

    Friends & Family is available on Nationwide Single Line plans with 900 Anytime minutes or more, or Nationwide Family SharePlans with 1400 Anytime minutes or more.



  13. With Friends & Family, does each line on my account get its own list of Friends & Family numbers?

    No, all of the lines on the account share the Friends & Family numbers for which the account is eligible. Each line doesn't get its own separate list of Friends & Family numbers.



  14. I'm a business customer. Can I subscribe to Friends & Family?

    Yes, business customers currently subscribed to qualifying Nationwide Single Line and Family SharePlans are eligible for Friends & Family. Visit My Business to manage your Friends & Family list anytime.

    Visit My Business periodically for updates.



  15. Will I continue to have my business or employee discounts and Friends & Family?

    Yes, customers who receive business or employee discounts will continue to enjoy these discounts plus the added benefit of Friends & Family on qualifying Nationwide plans.



  16. Do I still qualify for Mobile to Mobile Calling if I have Friends & Family?

    Yes, all plans eligible for Friends & Family also include Unlimited Mobile to Mobile Calling.



  17. How can I see if a friend's or family member's number qualifies for Verizon Mobile to Mobile Calling?

    You can enter the mobile number on the Mobile to Mobile number tool.
