Verizon StarStar Me FAQs

[FAQs]

General Information
  1. What is StarStar Me?
StarStar Me is an add-on mobile service that lets you use your name or nickname, when available, as your number. People can call you from their mobile phones by simply entering * * and then a unique word or phrase that you choose. When meeting new people, give out your memorable StarStar number instead of ten hard-to-remember digits.

  2. What does the StarStar Me app do?
The StarStar Me app helps you manage your incoming calls on your Android™ Smartphone or iPhone®. Within the app, you can:

    • Set your phone to not ring and send incoming calls straight to voice mail when you are unavailable to receive calls

    • Automatically reply to calls with a custom text message to let callers know that you aren’t currently available (e.g., “I’m in a meeting,” “I’m driving,” “I’m in class,” “I’m on a plane,” etc.)

    • Reply to calls with a link to a mobile web page with your contact info, including links to important social media accounts

    • Choose to block specific callers from reaching you

  3. How much does the StarStar number and StarStar Me app cost?
A StarStar number costs $3/month (plus tax), and the charges will appear on your Verizon Wireless bill.

    • Search for the app in the Google Play™ Store or the Apple® App StoreSM.and follow the onscreen instructions

Android is a trademark of Google, Inc. Use of this trademark is subject to Google Permissions. Apple and iPhone are registered trademarks of Apple Inc.

  6. How do I choose a StarStar number or find out if one is available?
You can choose a StarStar number from within the StarStar Me app or by visiting our StarStar Me website.

StarStar numbers must be at least five characters long (after the ** code) and can be a maximum of nine characters.

  7. Are there any restrictions for what StarStar number I can choose?
StarStar numbers must meet the following criteria:

    • Be between five and nine characters long (after the ** code)

    • Use letters and numbers only (no symbols or spaces)

  8. Does a StarStar number replace my existing mobile number?
No, calls to your StarStar number will be routed to your existing mobile number.

  9. Can anyone reach me on my StarStar number?
Mobile phone calls within the US from the major wireless carriers are currently supported. Landline and roaming calls are not supported at this time.

  10. Can people who use my StarStar number see my regular mobile phone number?
When people call your StarStar number, they’ll see the numeric equivalent of your StarStar number through Caller ID and in their call log (e.g., **72724 for **SARAH), not your mobile phone number. Calls to or from Verizon customers will appear with their full mobile phone number on the call recipient’s bill, however, calls from subscribers on other carriers won’t appear.

  11. Do StarStar numbers work the same on all mobile phones?
Your StarStar number will work no matter what mobile phone you use.

The StarStar Me app is currently available only on Android™ and iPhone®.

  12. What is my StarStar Me contact info?

    • Photo
    • Email address
    • Other phone numbers
    • Website URL
    • Links to your social media accounts

  13. What does blocking a caller do within the StarStar Me app?
When you block a caller from within the StarStar Me app, the blocked callers will receive an audio message stating that the subscriber they called is unavailable.

Calls from a blocked caller will not ring through to your phone or receive a reply message or contact info. Your StarStar Me app will keep a record of blocked calls.

  14. Is there a limit to the number of blocked callers I can have in the StarStar Me app?
No, there’s no limit to the number of blocked callers you can set within the app.

  15. How many StarStar numbers can I get?
You can have up to three StarStar numbers per mobile phone number. Each StarStar number costs $3/month (plus tax).

  16. What happens to my StarStar number if I cancel it?
If you have a StarStar number and decide to cancel it, it will stop working at the end of your current bill cycle. It will then be returned to the pool of available numbers.

  17. How do I cancel my StarStar Me service?
You can cancel your StarStar Me service online at our StarStar Me website or through the StarStar Me app.

  18. If I change carriers, can I transfer or “port” my StarStar number?
Your StarStar number cannot be transferred or “ported” from carrier to carrier the way your regular phone number can. When you change carriers, your number will be returned to the pool of available StarStar numbers. However, you can request the same number again if your new carrier supports the service.

  19. Can I sign up for a StarStar number if I have a prepaid account?
No, the service is not currently available for prepaid accounts.

  20. Can I send text messages (SMS) from my StarStar number?
No, at this time you can’t send text messages from your StarStar number. However, the StarStar Me app will send a text message to callers of your StarStar number, when you choose the reply with message or contact info options. You can customize the text message and contact info that is sent.

  24. Is there a way to reactivate a StarStar number that I canceled?
You can’t reactivate a StarStar number that you’ve canceled. Approximately five days after your bill cylce ends, the number will become available for purchase again. You can find the end date of your bill cycle on the Account page of our StarStar Me website.

  25. Can a StarStar number forward to a number other than my mobile phone?
No, calls to your StarStar number can only be sent to your mobile phone.

Troubleshooting
  1. I’m having trouble signing up for StarStar Me. Why?
If you’re having trouble signing up for StarStar Me, you may not have authority to add services to your account. You must be an Account Owner or Account Manager to sign up for this service. Learn more about My Verizon account roles.

If you are the Account Owner or Account Manager, or if you are unsure of your account role, and you are still having trouble signing up for StarStar Me, please call Verizon Customer Service by dialing 611 on your mobile phone.

  2. Sometimes when I dial someone’s StarStar number, it doesn’t connect. Why?

You may be having difficulty connecting to a StarStar number for one of the following reasons:

    • Roaming – StarStar numbers can only be connected if you place the call on the network of a carrier that supports the StarStar Me service, such as Verizon Wireless. If you’re roaming on another carrier’s network, you may have to dial the full ten digit number.

    • Using a Network Extender – You may experience problems connecting to StarStar numbers if you’re using a Verizon Wireless Network Extender.

    • Traveling internationally – You can’t dial a StarStar number if you’re traveling outside the US. However, callers in the US can reach you by dialing your StarStar number, even if you’re overseas (provided you have global service).

If you’re still experiencing difficulty connecting, you can call Verizon Customer Service by dialing 611 from your mobile phone.

  3. Why does my phone lock up sometimes when dialing the StarStar (**) portion of a StarStar number?
On some phones, if you push StarStar (**) too quickly or too slowly, it invokes a special function of a “pause” or “+”.

    • If you’re dialing ** too quickly – You may need to wait longer before pressing the * (asterisk) key the second time. After pressing the * key, try waiting a second before pressing it again.

    • If you’re dialing ** too slowly – You may be pressing and holding the *(asterisk) key too long between pushes, which triggers this special function. Try lifting your finger off the key quicker after you press it.

  4. When I dial a StarStar number, it says it sent me a text message but I never received it. What happened?
To receive text messages from a StarStar number you call, you must have texting enabled on your phone’s account. You also need to make sure you don’t have any blocks applied.
