Verizon Edge FAQs

[FAQs]

General Information
  1. What is Verizon Edge?

Verizon Edge is a program that provides you the flexibility to get the most current devices early or if you prefer, pay over 24 months rather than paying for it all upfront. You'll make a monthly payment until your device is paid off.

  2. What are the benefits of Verizon Edge?

    With Verizon Edge, you can:

    • Pay for a device over time that fits your monthly budget
    • Upgrade without an activation fee
    • Enjoy the flexibility to upgrade your device when you want
    • Reduce your MORE Everything monthly line access charges:

      • For active Edge smartphone lines on MORE Everything Plans up to 4 GB, your monthly access charge is $25. However, it will show up on your bill as a $40 charge with an offsetting $15 credit.

      • Active Edge smartphone lines on MORE Everything Plans 6 GB and higher have a $15 monthly access charge. However, it will show up on your bill as a $40 charge with an offsetting $25 credit.

      • Active basic phone Edge lines on the MORE Everything Plan have a $20 monthly access charge. However, it will show up on your bill as a $30 charge with an offsetting $10 credit.

  3. How does Verizon Edge work?

The Edge program requires you to enter a device installment agreement to pay for the device in monthly payments over 24 months.

    • The specific terms and payment amounts can be found in your installment agreement and your first bill with Edge.

    • Your monthly Edge installments will be charged on your bill.

    • You can choose to pay the installments over the full period of the term or in a lump sum to pay off the total price at any time.

  4. I'm an existing Verizon Wireless customer, can I participate in the Verizon Edge program?

Yes, you can participate provided you're eligible to upgrade and you enter a Verizon Edge Agreement.

  5. How do I add more Verizon Edge Agreements to my account?

You can have as many Verizon Edge Agreements as the number of active lines you have, as long as you don't exceed your Edge program spending limit.* There are several options to add additional lines of service with Verizon Edge:

    • Online through My Verizon
    • By meeting with a Solutions Specialist at a Verizon Wireless store
    • Calling a Customer Service Representative at (800) 922-0204

*If your equipment upgrade or additional lines result in charges exceeding your spending limit, you may need to make a down payment to lower the amount financed.

  6. I'm an existing Verizon Wireless customer and received a letter about not being eligible or having to make a down payment for Verizon Edge. How can I become eligible?

Because Verizon Edge is an installment agreement to pay for equipment over time, we check for financial good standing on any account in your name. If you're not currently eligible for Verizon Edge, there's a variety of ways to qualify for this type of equipment payment option:

    • If your account(s) has (have) had returned payments and your payment options have been limited to cash only, you can become eligible for Verizon Edge by paying your balance in full each month for the next 6 months.

    • If your account(s) balance(s) is (are) past due $25 or more when you applied for Verizon Edge, you'll need to pay off all balances in full to become eligible.

    • If you have any unpaid account(s) with Verizon Wireless that has (have) been disconnected for non-payment and referred to an outside collection agency, you can become eligible for Edge by making payment in full to satisfy the debt.

    • If your account(s) has (have) been suspended for non-payment within the last 6 months, you'll need to pay your bill in full for the next 6 months in order to qualify for Verizon Edge.

    • If your original activation credit decision resulted in your having to pay a security deposit, which we're still holding on your account, you'll need to pay your bill in full each month for 1 year from when the deposit was originally paid.

For your convenience, there are several ways to make a payment:

    • Online through My Verizon
    • At a Verizon Wireless store
    • Calling a Customer Service Representative at (800) 922-0204

Note: You may also be eligible for Verizon Edge by paying a down payment within the first 6 months of service with Verizon Wireless based on the original activation credit decision when you opened your account.

  7. Can I add insurance or other equipment protection options for a Verizon Edge device?

Yes. You can purchase insurance and other equipment protection services to guard against loss, theft, accidental damage, and certain post-manufacturer warranty defects. Learn more about Equipment Protection programs.

  8. Do Verizon's Return and Exchange Policy and a 1-Year Warranty apply to my Edge device?

Yes. Verizon Edge devices are covered by these policies.

Learn more about Verizon's Return Policy.

Installment Agreement and Payments
  1. Why does the Verizon Edge program require two agreements?

An installment agreement is required to purchase a device under the Verizon Edge Program. For details see How Does Verizon Edge Work?

In addition, Edge customers must also agree to the Verizon Wireless Customer Agreement, their calling plan, and other important terms for the services they select.

  2. Can I pay more than my scheduled monthly Verizon Edge installment?

No. The only exceptions to making additional payments are:

    • To pay off 100% of your Verizon Edge Agreement balance.

    • For customers on Edge Agreements prior to 5/31/15, you may make the required payment to complete an Edge Up upgrade.

  3. How can I view the remaining balance of my Verizon Edge device?

Your remaining Edge balance is available for viewing in several places:

    • On your bill
    • Online in My Verizon
    • Or by calling #BAL from your Edge device

  4. How can I pay the remaining balance of my Verizon Edge Agreement?

You can pay off your Edge Agreement in 3 ways:

    • Online in My Verizon
    • At a Verizon Wireless store
    • Calling a Customer Service Representative at (800) 922-0204

  5. If my Verizon Edge device is lost, stolen or damaged, will I still need to make my monthly payments?

Yes, you'll continue to be responsible for your monthly payments under your Verizon Edge contract. Verizon offers handset insurance and other device protection services to help protect your Verizon Edge device.

  6. What are my options if my Edge device is lost or stolen or damaged?

There are several options depending on your circumstances:

    • If you have Equipment Protection on your Edge device, you may file a claim with Asurion for a replacement device and continue with your monthly payment.

    • If the device has a defect and isn't physically damaged, it may be covered by manufacturers warranty. Use our Troubleshooting Assistant to assess your issue. Pay off the remaining balance and then buy a new device with Verizon Edge.

  7. If I voluntarily suspend service to my device, am I still required to pay the installments for my Verizon Edge device?

Yes. If you voluntarily suspend service to your device (with or without billing) you'll still receive a monthly statement with your Verizon Edge charges. The charges are due according to the payment schedule included on your Edge Agreement.

Note: If your line is suspended under our Military Service Policy, you won't be billed Verizon Edge payments during the military suspension (limit for military suspend is 3 years and 90 days) and your payments will resume upon your return from military service.

  8. I need to disconnect a line of service that has an active Edge Agreement. What are my options?

Your options depend on the type of device. Once the originating line of service is canceled, an Edge Up upgrade cannot be done.

    For smartphones or basic phones:

    • If other active lines remain on the account, you'll continue to be billed monthly for the amount of your Edge Agreement until the agreement is complete or you choose to pay off the remaining balance.

    • If there are no remaining active lines, the remaining balance of your Edge Agreement will be due in full on your next bill.

    For tablets:

    • The line of service will be disconnected and the remaining balance of your Edge Agreement will be due in full on your next bill.

  9. Can I have someone assume liability of my line if it has an active Edge agreement?

No, a line with an active Edge agreement cannot be assumed by another party. However, you have the option to pay the remaining Edge balance off and then have the line of service assumed.

Billing and Pricing
  1. What are the line access costs for Edge if I have the MORE Everything Plan?

Lines with an active Edge Agreement on the MORE Everything Plan receive an offset credit on monthly access charges:

    • For active Edge smartphone lines on MORE Everything Plans up to 4 GB, your monthly access charge is $25. However, it will show up on your bill as a $40 charge with an offsetting $15 credit.

    • For active Edge smartphone lines on MORE Everything Plans 6 GB and higher, your monthly access charge is $15. However, it will show up on your bill as a $40 charge with an offsetting $25 credit.

    • For active Edge basic phone lines on the MORE Everything Plan, your monthly access charge is $20. However, it will show up on your bill as a $30 charge with an offsetting $10 credit.

  2. I just purchased a new device under Verizon Edge. What should I expect to see on my monthly bill?

Your FIRST bill after signing up for Edge might be higher than you expect because it could be prorated. For example, if you upgraded an existing line and did a price plan change, you may have price plan charges and credits that went into effect the day you upgraded.

Your bill will normally reflect the following:

    • Your prior Edge installment payment
    • The next Edge installment charge
    • If you're on a MORE Everything Plan, a monthly access offset credit for each qualifying smartphone or basic phone line.

The details can be viewed at the line level portion of your bill under Monthly Charges and Equipment Charges.

To view the details online in My Verizon:

    1. Go to My Bill.
    2. Then the Charges By Line tab.

  3. Where on the bill does it show my Edge line credits and charges?

Offset credits can be found at the line level page of your bill under Monthly Charges, immediately following your line Monthly Access Charge.

  4. Why am I being billed for my remaining balance?

When you Edge Up (for customers with Edge Agreements prior to 5/31/15), you are required to return your old Edge device, or an authorized replacement within 14 days. The remaining balance of your Edge Agreement is charged on your next bill. Once your old Edge device is received by Verizon and determined to be in good working condition by Verizon, the charge is credited, which may appear on your next bill after receipt of the device.

If your device was returned to you, it may have been for one of the following reasons:

    • The device was not in good working condition
    • The device was received after the requisite 14 day period
    • The device you returned was not your old Edge device or authorized replacement:*
      • The same one that was purchased on your original Verizon Edge Agreement
      • A Verizon-issued Certified Like-New Replacement
      • An insurance replacement issued by Asurion or Apple

*These devices are returned to the customer with an explanation why it was returned. Learn more about Device Returns and Shipping.

  5. Why do I have a charge for an Early Edge Non-Return Fee on my bill?

If you qualified for an Early Edge promotion, you may have been required to send us your current device. An Early Edge Non-Return Fee only applies in the following cases:

    • Different device was received than what was required*
    • The device was received after the requisite 14 day period
    • Device was not in good working condition*
    • Expected device was never received

    * Each returned device will come with an explanation why the device was returned.

Device Returns and Shipping
  1. I received a notification from Verizon about returning a device. What do I do?

Verizon sends email and text reminder notifications to customers who have recently completed an Edge Up or Early Edge upgrade to remind them they need to return their old device in good working condition to Verizon within 14 days of receiving the new device.

For Edge Up device upgrades (available to customers with active Edge agreements prior to 5/31/15 who qualify for the Edge Up option under their agreement), the device you return must be one of the following:

    • The same one that was purchased on your original Edge agreement
    • A Verizon-issued Certified Like-New Replacement or an insurance replacement issued by Asurion or Apple for the original Edge device

Note: Failure to return this device could result in you being billed for the remaining balance of your original Edge device.

For Early Edge* upgrades (available to customers with a non-Edge device who are upgrading to an Edge device), the device you send must be the device being upgraded on an Early Edge promotion.

Note: Failure to return this device could result in a $299 Early Edge Non-Return Fee.

*Depending upon your specific Early Edge promotion, some upgrades may not  require a device return.

  2. What are the requirements to send back my device?

The device you are upgrading must be in good working condition or it will be rejected and returned to you. The return requirements are:

    • Device has a functioning battery
    • Can power on and off
    • The screen must be intact, with no cracks or breaks
    • Charging and connection ports must be intact and free of visible corrosion and water damage

    • Turn the device off
    • Include the battery (and if removable, leave it attached)
    • Do not send any accessories such as chargers; remove SIM and SD cards
    • You can also perform a factory reset, which will erase all device data

If your previous device is an Apple device with iOS 7 or later, you must disable Find My iPhone prior to return. To disable Find My iPhone:

    • Edge Up: You'll be billed for the remaining balance of your original Edge device.
    • Early Edge: You'll be charged a $299 Early Edge Non-Return Fee.

  5. Why was my device sent back to me?

If your device was returned to you, it may have been for one of the following reasons:

    • The device was not in good working condition
    • The device was received after the requisite 14 day period
    • You returned the wrong device

Each returned device will come with an explanation why the device was returned. Returned devices could be subject to the following charges or fees, depending on the type of Edge agreement.

    • Edge Up: You'll be billed for the remaining balance of your original Edge agreement
    • Early Edge: You'll be charged a $299 Early Edge Non-Return Fee

  6. I lost my return label. How do I get a new one?

You can print a new return label in My Verizon.

    • Go to VerizonWireless.com/printlabel and sign into My Verizon. You'll be signed into the My Orders page.
    • Select the appropriate device in Order History.
    • Click Print Return Label and print the .PDF* version. The label can only be used for this order.
    • Keep a copy of the tracking number for your records.

Edge Up, for Edge customers prior to 5/31/15
  1. What is the Edge Up option under Verizon Edge and who can Edge Up?

You must meet the other Edge Up eligibility requirements in the Edge Agreement to use this option.

When you're ready, you can make a payment to bring your balance to 75% paid, and then you can immediately Edge Up. Only customers with active Edge Agreements prior to 5/31/15 are eligible to Edge Up.

There are several ways to make a payment:

    • Call a Customer Service Representative at (800) 922-0204

Only customers with active Edge Agreements prior to 5/31/15 are eligible to Edge Up.

  5. I just completed an Edge Up, how do I send Verizon my original device?

As part of your recent Edge device upgrade, you must send your old Edge device, or an authorized replacement to Verizon Wireless within 14 days of receiving your new device, or you'll be charged the remaining balance of your installment agreement.

The device you send must be one of the following, in good working condition:

    • The same one that was purchased on your original Verizon Edge Agreement
    • A Verizon-issued Certified Like-New Replacement
    • An insurance replacement issued by Asurion or Apple

For full return instructions, go to the Shipping a Device section.

  6. If I Edge Up and then decide to return my new device within 14 days, can I continue making payments towards the original device under my old Edge Agreement?

No. Once you exercise the Edge Up option by paying off your required remaining balance, your old Verizon Edge Agreement is terminated.

  7. I paid off 100% of my Edge device. Can I trade it in and use the trade-in value toward the cost of a new device under a new Verizon Edge Agreement?

Yes. You'll receive the trade-in value balance to use as a down payment towards the purchase of a new device with an Edge agreement, or to pay your Verizon Wireless bill. If you purchase your device in a Verizon Wireless store you can use your trade-in balance immediately.

If you complete your trade-in online, your balance will be sent within 2 weeks after your trade-in is received, either in an email as an electronic Verizon Wireless Gift Card or as an account credit.

Early Edge
  1. What is Early Edge?

Early Edge is an occasional promotional offer available for lines that are currently ineligible to upgrade. Those lines can upgrade early on the Edge program, but may require you to turn in your current device. The promotional offers vary and are subject to further eligibility requirements. To find out if any of your lines are eligible for an upgrade promotion, visit a Verizon Wireless Retail store or call (800) 922-0204.

  2. I did an Early Edge promotion and need to return my current device as part of the promotion. How do I return my device?

If you're required to send Verizon your current device as part of a recent Early Edge promotion, you must send the device to Verizon Wireless within 14 days of receiving your new device, or you'll be charged the Early Edge Non Return Fee of $299.

The device you send must be in good working condition, and the same one that was on the upgraded line. Learn how to send your device back to Verizon Wireless.
