How to get started with Verizon Smart Family (3:00)
How to start using Verizon Smart Family.
To begin, download the Verizon Smart Family Parent app from the Apple® App Store or Google Play™ Store.
Open it up and tap Get started.
As your partner in digital parenting, Smart Family Premium gives you the tools to monitor your child's online activity, location tracking and so much more.
Just sign in to your Verizon account using your mobile number or My Verizon User ID.
Next, choose a plan that's right for your family's needs.
To locate family members, you'll need Smart Family Premium. Get the first 30 days free.*
Next, review and agree to the parental consent and privacy policy.
Follow the prompts to allow notifications and location sharing.
The app will walk you through all the steps. Depending on your operating system, they might look a little different.
Your location will be used to provide updates to your family even when the app is running in the background.
If you turn off this location permission, we will continue to use approximate device location from our wireless network.
You can also choose to not share any location with others on the account by going to the Smart Family settings later.
Now it's time to create profiles for you and your family.
You'll start with your own profile.
The name and optional picture will be seen by all family members who have the Smart Family Parent app or Child app.
Next, create profiles for the rest of your family.
Tap Add a profile.
Enter their name or nickname and select their role in the family.
Next, select their primary device's phone number from the available lines on your Verizon account.
You'll also have an option to add another device, like their tablet.
Once complete, you'll see them added to your list of family members.
Repeat these steps to create any additional profiles.
Now, your family members need to set up their own devices, so let's send invites to let them know their profiles are ready and it's time to download and pair the app.
On your child's device, download and open the Smart Family Companion app.
Tap Get started and let your child take a moment to see how Smart Family will benefit them.
Review and agree to Smart Family data collection.
Follow the prompts to share your child's online activity, allow notifications, and share their contacts.
Your child will also be asked to share their location and enable driving activity.
Repeat these steps for any other family members that were invited.
Before you'll be able to enjoy all the Smart Family benefits, you'll need to restart all devices added to your account.
The Parent and Child app will walk your family through the basics to set up parental controls, notifications and learn about all the features and benefits.
Tap Begin set up and follow along with the guide.
This should take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
To learn more about how to use all the features, check out our other video.
That's Verizon Smart Family.
Peace of mind for you. Freedom for them.
