Many products are hitting the market that are changing the way we think about home décor and ambiance, and how we choose to set just the right mood in our homes can truly be a work of our own personal creation.
Is your 3rd grader having a hard time finishing a book report? Are you hosting a late-night dinner party with your closest friends? Or maybe you just want to settle in to read a good book after everyone else in the house has gone to sleep? These new, intuitive and clever lighting products provide a solution – they enable you to choose the right lighting combinations, setting the perfect mood for each of these scenarios and more.
The hue Personal Wireless Lighting system by Philips offers “Light Recipes” which are designed specifically to help you relax, concentrate, get energized and give you the ideal lighting for reading. Just click on one of these recipes from your smartphone and you’re ready to go.
How does it work?
After the hue lighting system has been installed in your home, a quick and simple process, download the free hue app on your smartphone or wireless device. The hue Connected Light Bulb Starter Kit includes three hue light bulbs, and if you want to add more or spread the lighting system to other rooms throughout your home, individual hue bulbs are available for purchase.
Each bulb has the capacity to recreate any color in the spectrum, up to 16 million colors. The LED technology inside the bulbs can display different tones of white light – from warm yellow to vibrant blue. And they can last 15,000 hours, or about 13.7 years based on typical usage of three hours per day. The average 60-watt incandescent bulb lasts up to 1,000 hours – less than one year based on typical usage.
In order to determine specific light and color combinations that will bolster concentration, relaxation, energy levels and improve reading conditions, Philips conducted light projects in schools and hospitals –all while focusing on the health and wellness benefits that light can offer.
The results are “Relax,” “Concentrate,” “Energize,” and “Reading” – pull these Light Recipes up through the app and click. It’s just that easy.
Let your creative juices flow
If you want to take your hue experience even further, you can use your own photos as your palette and, using the hue app, select colors from the photos that you want to see illuminated in your home. Choose a photo from your smart phone or take a new pic, then drag the pointers representing your wireless bulbs to a color in the photo - the bulbs will change to those colors immediately!
Recreate a special memory from your honeymoon for your spouse as an anniversary surprise, then save the scene so you can use it again next year. Save a bunch of scenes and try grouping them together for completely new and interesting combos; even share your favorites with the hue community.
Use the timer option to turn hue into a pleasant wake-up call: set the lights to gradually brighten over time, and make the scene complete by using the colors of sunrise at dawn.
Light it up when you’re away
Just because you’re not at home doesn’t mean you can’t still make the hue work for you. Access your wireless lamps from anywhere in the world through a web browser after you create a hue account. Make it look like someone is home even when you’re not by controlling the lights in your home remotely. Or, set them up to come on at a certain time with the timer option. Never come home to a dark house again with hue. The possibilities are endless.
