You receive an email that says "Alarm – back door – 2:33 p.m." while at work. What does that mean exactly? Was there a break in? Is it a false alarm? Without any other details in the message, how can you check, how can you know for sure? Or imagine you're whipping up a new recipe in the kitchen, and while dicing the veggies to perfection, the smoke alarm goes off – you left the main dish in the oven a tad too long. Since it's not an emergency you get out the broom, waft the smoke out of the windows, and turn on the ceiling fan! Anything to silence that alarm. If you're familiar with these scenarios, it's time to think about upgrading your home security situation. The products that are helping to keep you, your family and your home safe should be functioning on the most up-to-date technology. That's why Nest, the company known for the Nest Learning Thermostat, has introduced the Nest Cam Wi-Fi video camera and the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.
Let's look at the above scenarios again, this time with the Nest Cam and the Nest Protect on the job. You receive an alert on your smart device while at work, telling you that motion and sound have been detected in your home. Upon viewing the secure stream from your smartphone, you see that your mom stopped in to feed the dog. Thanks to the Nest Cam, you can see and hear exactly what is happening in the room where the motion and sound are detected. No wondering, no worrying. Or what if it's a false alarm in the kitchen? No fire – just an overdone roast. You can simply reach for your smart device and silence the alarm from the Nest app.
Those chirping sounds alerting you to low batteries in your smoke detector will be a thing of the past with Nest Protect. This smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm does a self-check before bedtime – it glows green if everything is in good working order. If something is not quite right, you'll see a yellow glow. Plus it tests itself over 400 times per day. If anything is malfunctioning or you simply need to replace the batteries, it will let you know immediately. That's the smart home advantage.
Nest Cam helps you see and hear what's happening in your home when you're not there
Stream live, super-clear 1080p HD video of a room in your home whenever you need to check on it, and the embedded mic and speaker means you can listen in and speak. If you take a peek through the Nest app on your mobile device and see the dog is chewing on the furniture, simply tell Fido to stop. Or if you're out on the deck enjoying the fresh air but want to check on the sleeping baby, pull up the streaming video and listen to the sounds to make sure there's no crying. The Nest Cam is always watching for motion and sound, and will send an alert to your mobile device if either is detected, even in the dark thanks to the Night Vision LED sensors.
130-degree, wide-angle view of the room right on your mobile device or laptop
Access your Nest Cam secure streaming video on your phone, tablet or laptop to see the 130-degree wide-angle view of the room, and observe what that takes place in 1080p HD. Need a closer look – zoom in and enhance for greater detail. Watch Nest Cam video using the Nest app for iOS® 8 or later, Android® 4 or later, or on the web at nest.com/home.
Nest Protect is a smoke and CO detector that talks to you
Instead of being left to figure out why your smoke alarm is sounding, the Nest Protect will tell you. And if you have several Nest Protects stationed throughout your home, you can assign them each a name depending on the coordinating room. So when the Nest Protect detects something, you'll hear the important details right away, like "Emergency. There's smoke in the living room." And if it's just some overcooked popcorn, the Nest Protect will figure it out. It will say "Heads up" instead of "Emergency" to let you know only a little smoke was detected. Words instead of beeps keep you in the know and out of panic mode.
Nest Protect sees what you can't
Worry less about carbon monoxide with Nest Protect watching out for you. Even though it's invisible and odorless, it can be deadly. Nest Protect can detect it and will let you know it's there; it constantly checks for high levels of CO in your home.
Nest Thermostat, Nest Protect and Nest Cam work together to provide smart home protection
If the Nest Protect detects carbon monoxide, your Nest Thermostat automatically turns off your gas furnace, which can be a possible source of poisonous carbon monoxide leaks.* In addition, the Nest Protect activity sensors improve the Auto-Away feature of your Nest Thermostat.
When the Nest Protect alarm goes off, your Nest Cam records a clip so you can see what happened.
Download the free Nest app to access all of the enhanced features for each of these products, and keep an even closer eye on your home. Stay connected to all that goes on there.
No more guessing, only facts, details and reassurance. That's the type of protection you can have for your home with this trio of Nest smart home accessories.

*Automatic CO shutoff requires an active Wi-Fi Internet connection at the time of the event and relies on having both Nest Protect and Nest Learning Thermostat added to the same home in a Nest Account. This feature is not part of Underwriters Laboratories testing and listing.
